I've been playing since release and can't recall ever seeing a rat in the game, let alone killing one. All my settings are cranked up so I don't think its not rendering everything...

Missing and arm or leg or brain is a handicap... sucking at video games is not. Instead of a handicap, why don't you just practice or better yet, find something more constructive to do?
Theres a million studies that claim all these activities take minutes/days/years off your life. If you added them all up we'd probably net negative life spans.
