    fiber optic lighting

I'm not sure exactly what you're wanting to do, but they make UV reactive window appliques and paint. If you put one of the appliques on or stencil on your design, a uv light would make it glow. Small cold cathodes work well placed right above the window. I did this with one of my cases and...

Tips on painting a polka dot pattern?

Imho a vinyl die is probably overkill for this project. I highly doubt he'll be painting more polka dots anytime soon. If I were doing this, I would either use the inverse dot sticker idea or maybe cut a hole in a file folder, set it down, and run the airbrush over it real quick. I've used...

Tips on painting a polka dot pattern?

That idea will work unless you are using powder coating. The heat they use to bake the paint would burn up your little stickers and would likely mess up the paint underneath. If he uses regular spray paint this will work better, but not with powder coating.

Tips on painting a polka dot pattern?

You could get the little color coding dot stickers and use the backing off of them. You can get them at walmart, office depot, or even newegg. Just find ones with plenty of space around the sticker...

Does this count as a custom case? [Case Badge]

A couple years back a friend of mine wanted me to install a printer/scanner on his parents' computer. They had just used the XP upgrade on a PIII with a whopping 64MB of RAM. It was literally click start and wait for 5 or 10 seconds. They couldn't believe how fast it was when we got 512MB for...

    ChildProof Quality Fan Controller?

Maybe you could do something similar to the stealth DVD drive mod. It sounds like you're going to put it in, set it, and leave it so you could just set the controller further back in the bay and put the cover back over it. If you really get creative, you could hinge it and put a little lock...

Do most gamers use with wired or wireless mice?

I've had a Logitech VX Revolution wireless mouse for years. I've gamed a lot with it and have never had a problem. My college roommate had a Logitech G5 (wired) and we had this discussion multiple times. He would never use a wireless mouse but I could not see a response time difference...

    Mod Solo fan mesh?

I cut the mesh out of my antec 300 and it made a noticeable difference in the "woosh" sound of the fans. I also cut out the jagged edges and put u-channel around the edge and it help even more as it acts as a dampener for the fan vibrations as well.

Recommend me a good case for 4ghz CPU and plenty of space for ~$50

Antec 300. Watch newegg for free shipping deals. You're going to pay closer to $60, but it's worth it. Then just pick up a couple Yate Loons for the front and you should be golden. That will put you around the $70 mark, but this is your best bang for the buck setup imho.

Differences between 3/8" ID and 1/2" ID tubing?

My college roommate is a computer engineer and we talked about this quite a bit at one point in time. He was using 1/2" ID tubing and got tired of dealing with it. I was running 3/8" ID and we both ended up going to 1/4" ID for it's ease of use. Between the 1/2" ID and the 1/4" ID there was...

    Overclocking a watercooled rig

You should be able to overclock in your BIOS depending on your motherboard. Use Real Temp to monitor your temperatures. I like Intel Burn Test for stress testing, but I've heard it sometimes has problems with i7s. Depending on what kind of motherboard, RAM, etc. you have, it would not be...

SFF cases that will hold a GTX 260

I had a ATI 4890 in a microfly with no problems. It's tight, but it fits fine. My gtx275 would fit, but it's in another case and I believe it's the same size if not a little longer than the 260. Good luck!

    Cutting up cases

You should be able to get a 120mm hole saw at Lowe's or Home Depot. Just look on the package and it should tell you what it's rated for (wood, soft metal, etc.). For the Dremel I typically get the reinforced cutting discs. http://www.mnpctech.com/DremelDisc.html The regular cut off wheels...

    Cutting up cases

For fans, a hole saw does wonders. For windows I prefer to make the major cuts with a jigsaw and follow up with a dremel and metal file to clean it up.

What are some inexpensive quiet fans?

Another for Yate Loon here. You guys are right in that the mediums are not what you would call quiet at stock voltage, but if you put them on a fan controller and undervolt them, they are pretty much silent. I have 3x120mm and 2 140mm in my case and the Western Digital Green Drive in there is...
