Even the top end AMD dual cores struggle with Supreme Commander. As a matter of fact high end Core 2 are just adequate with an 8800 once you get into the latter stages of the game with lots of units and big battles. You really need quad core to play this at good frame rates. Most reasonable...
That's about the limit for those chips with standard air cooling. Mine maxed out at 2.67. You need water or a peltier to go higher but the money would be better spent on a dual core AMD or a new system with an E4300 if you really want a high overclock.
The dual core 3800 has a lower stock speed than a single core 3800 so in a lot of games a stock X2 3800 would be slower but of course you can overclock it. I changed to dual core about 4 months ago (Opteron 170 @2.8 and I love it. I would not go back to single core for anything. For the last...
When you first enter the main bios screen hit Ctrl F1 which activates adavanced options for the bios. See the following thread.

First and most important you need to keep the HTT speed to 1000 or lower so you need to change the HT link multiplyer from x5 to x3 if you want to get a decent overclock. I am surprised you got it stable at 1149.7. Most boards do not like going even a little above 1000. I had the same chip at...
Some good dual/quad core games coming soon. Supreme Commander out in February runs 35fps on Core 2 6800, 53fps on quad core QX6700. Review says it stresses CPU first, Memeory second and GPU third.
Alan Wake due soon won't run on less than dual core and Vista.
Crysis now delayed to later...
2 x 7600 GT are not good value for money either
I would recommend a dual core setup preferably an Opteron 165 or 170 or a 3800+ X2
a 7950GT (8800GTS at most) An 8800GTX would be a waste of money without going to a Core 2 Duo
2gb ram if you can afford it otherwise 1gb is OK
One 320GB...
No I don't think it is worth it as it is only a minor jump from 4400 to 4800 and neither is powerful enough to do justice to an 8800GTX. Save you money and go C2D. Overclock your 4400 in the meantime.
1.4v may not be enough. Try 1.45v which is what I needed to get my Opteron to 2.8.
I would also loosen the ram timings, try 3 3 3 8 as well as the DDR333 divider.
My seeting as you can see in my sig are
HTT x3
Ram divider DDR333
Ram timings 3 3 3 8 1T
1.45 volts to CPU
If this is...
Also running 4 sticks may limit how much you can overclock your CPU. Looking at some other threads it appears some running 4 sticks have had problems overclocking to higher levels.
I have a similar system and recently upgraded to the Opteron 170 and am very happy with it. Difference between Opteron and X2 - Opteron are server class processors and are generally better quality silicon and more thoroughly tested. They overclock better than the X2 CPU. All Opterons have 2 x...
I am also running the Asus A8N SLI Deluxe with the 1013 bios. I have the OPTY 170 running at 2.8 with no problems and will probably go higher. They come with a quite good 4 heat pipe cooler which should be enough to keep it cool at 2.8 and possibly higher
I have essentially the same board, an Asus A8N SLI Deluxe, and am running it at 280 with no problems. The only thing I can think of is to try with only 2 sticks of ram. I have heard that running 4 sticks of ram can limit overclocking. Apparently you need to run 2t ram timings with 4 sticks of...
There is nothing wrong with this ram but you NEED to go to a lower ram divider with timings that tight or loosen the timings to say 2.5 3 3 8 at that speed. Your biggest problem is the HTT speed. You MUST keep it to 1000 or lower. Go to x4 up to 250 & x3 over 250.
Better cooling helps but...
