update: I put together my little HTPC. The InWin BM639 case has a very nice build quality and is pretty small. Maybe next time I'd get something even smaller but I'm happy with it. Surprisingly the PSU and case fans are almost inaudible. The loudest one is actually the motherboard's CPU fan and...
The remote possiiblity of a fire is a bit scary. If possible, try to set the 6200 CPU to a voltage that would keep it at or near a max of 95W. In other words, some motherboards are very liberal with motherboard settings, I am not very familiar with MSI's but as an example, if I set my 65W CPU to...
Fail. The card was great for gaming yes, but I actually found the Windows 7 environment and applications/web browsing was significantly less smooth and snappy than my onboard video. I even tried several nvidia driver versions, the HD4200 is definitely faster outside of games so I ended up...
HUGE increase you say? :D
I usually play games w/ my other machine (Core2Quad/ATI HD6670/8GB), but I might try some Steam games w/ the 8600GT in this machine. Time to dust the tower out anyway, imma throw it in, thanks
My office PC uses an onboard Radeon HD 4200. Video performance is pretty good for what it is, but I am curious if this extra Geforce 8600GT 256MB that I have lying around would give the system a boost, or if the added energy consumption isn't worth it. Basically performance scores indicate that...
check provantage.com. I bought an MSI NM70 (mobo+BGA cpu) for $67.60 from them
they have a lot of good prices on mITX boards, cases, and also on DDR3. IMO their deals are more consistent than newegg.
looks like the free RAM deal may be dead again. maybe they drop it every time they get a bunch of orders or something?
In addition, for those interested, the MSI C847IS-P33 board I purchased is $67.60 on Provantage.
I may use a fan speed controller or something, or perhaps there is a quieter option in that fan size, haven't had much chance to look around yet. But yeaaaaahhh those pico psu's are neat, great concept. Found this for $10:

I already have plenty...
I did spend about $20 less on the MSI board. RAM didn't cost me anything. Guess I could have posted prices. That's a sweet deal for the Biostar w/ the RAM, I might have to build another one!
I was a little concerned about the tiny PSU fan too, unfortunately this was the smallest case/psu I...
I shopped around a ton and read a bunch of long reviews and ended up ordering a system based on the NM70/Celeron 847.
Provantage had some good prices, here's what I got:
MSI C847IS-P33 Intel Sandy Bridge Celeron 847/NM70 Motherboard.
+ 2 x 4GB DDR3-1600.
black InWin BM639 MiniITX case w/ 160w...
