One of my favorite things about AMD/ATI was that they had hotkeys built in for switching displays.
I could switch between any display setup easily and without any clicking.
The new driver is an ugly stupid "modernization" that was unneeded and with less features.

I have an original 360 without HDMI and it works fine as an extender...
main tv has 360 slim as extender
brother also has 360 slim as extender in his room
basement gym area has old hdmi-less 360 as extender
and then every PC in the house has WMC so pretty much you can watch live HD TV any...
i got one of these a few months ago to replace my FIOS boxes and its pretty awesome. I use my 360 as an extender with the Microsoft WMC remote and it works flawlessly.
I save about $45 a month on STB rentals fees so it pays itself off in a few months.
the T2700 will be a great upgrade from that old celeron... you should be able to extend the life significantly with that simple upgrade.
you should also try to max out the ram (2GB) if you haven't already.

I used to own the P5N-E the OP has and it is a pretty horrible board for overclocking quads. I am actually pretty surprised at the 3ghz he was able to achieve. But you are right a B3 Q6600 isn't likely to see over 3.2-3.4ghz anyways.
