I am piecing together a new build tonight:
Specs:
Intel 6300
Asus p5b
Western Digital Caviar 250 Sata drive
My question is that I cannot determine the process of setting this up.
How can I set this up so that I can use just the HD set as Sata vs IDE?
I hear something about loading...
You didn't happen to get the parts at NewEgg did you?
Not saying anything bad about them, but I had the exact same thing happen to me, and I am RMA'ing the CPU and motherboard back to be refunded. (second CPU and third motherboard to be exact)
Now I'm just trying to decide if I want to buy...
Yeah the problem is that it wont work, Once I powered the system up, it worked for 2-3 seconds then just powered off.
I was scratching my head until I finally tried popping of the HSF and realized that one of the legs wasnt seating properly and wasnt making contact with the proc.
Long story short:
I accidentally mashed one of the plastic pegs on the stock heat sink fan that came with my e6300, remember kids: don't install the Heat sink fan until you have the motherboard up on its standoffs/
Anyway am in the process of buying a new Zalman HSF.
Is it...
I looked at the processor and the heatsink again and it looks like all the paste had melted into a round mess.
I didnt think that it would have melted since the MB didnt really work (fans didn't spin., etc) but apparently it did.
It looks like I will remove the old paste and put new on...
My scenario:
I built a recent computer with the stock HSF and heat sink on an Intel e6300.
It turned out that the mother board was bad and there was no power that ever went to the board, however I did have the heatsink applied and the processor on the board.
My question now is will I...

Maybe Randy will see this and be able to give me an answer.
Thanks.

OK, I split the 8 pin into 2 4's and then plugged everything in.
I then plugged it in, and made sure the PW was on, now all I get is a green solid light on the mobo.
The PS does not seem to turn on. Is it supposed to act that way? I had a friend say that the fans in a modern PS will not spin...
Thanks for the reply, I am just worried about using that 8 pin, as the documentation as well as other info on the web all show that there should be a dedicated 4 pin ATX connector.
They called the 8 pin an EPS connector so that just seems like there is another spot that would go.
I just...
The Classic First time build,

I have just bought a Ultra XFinity 500 Watt Power Supply.
I have heard ok things about it, the issue is that I have laid out all the connectors
and strangely enough, it seems the 12v 4 pn connector is missing?!
