Hi,
I just ordered a machine from a vendor. It has 2 80GB SATA harddisks and I believe it uses a Intel ICH7R SATA controller. The OS is CentOS 5.1.
The vendor gave the machine with both hard disks in a RAID 0 format, so it shows a whole 160GB. If I want to convert to a RAID 1...
Thanks.
Users will be reading/writing text files to it. More reads than writes I think. I am not clear on why the write performance would be lower - could you explain?
Also do you think if the CPU processing power won't be much for serving out files, I can also run a subversion server on...
Thanks Danny.
The two 80GB are for the OS to do a RAID-1 mirroring.
I thought the CPU should be fine since not much processing is involved in serving the files.
I am planning to build a server that runs FreeNAS and RAID5 with around 10-20 clients. Do these specs look good?:

1 GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
1 CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX ATX12V V2.2 450W Power Supply

Hi all,
I am looking to build a 2TB LVM/Raid-5 based machine. I am thinking of getting 1GB RAM, maybe an Athlon 4400+, 4 Seagate 500GB disks. I am still stuck on the kind of cooling and case I would need for the configuration. I also want to be able to expand the storage to 4TB over time. So...
