    Disable nVidia GPU, enable onboard

Can someone assist with ideas for disabling an nVidia graphics card, and forcing the use of onboard video? My chipset has onboard video whereas the GPU on the mobo is fried. I have disabled (and uninstalled for good measure) the nVidia in the Display Adaptor section of Device Manager under...

HP Slimline's bigger brother: Dell Studio Slim 540s

I'm pretty sure my stock fan was also running at 1600-ish 100% of the time. For what its worth, the replacement fan runs at 2000-ish 100% of the time. Guess that proves that the crappy Dell bios disables any voltage variation to the fan?

When I contacted Dell about my noisy power supply, they sent an engineer out to replace it. Even though I only had return to base warranty. You might get lucky too - worth a try. I would definitely get Dell to look at this whether or not they come out to you.

By the way I thought it would be interesting to check exactly which temperature reading is for which component. So I asked Dell. Unfortunately... tech support told me they could not help... So we have to guess which sensor is which.

Furq : temp 1 looks very high to me. Hottest item in my Studio Slim is the graphics card (Nvidea) but that never gets above 65C. Next hottest is PSU which rarely goes above 55. Beowulf : -60C for temp3? Wierd...

No problem. You need to carefully push out a small black plastic lug at each corner of the CPU fan. Not hard to do. Pretty sure my case fan also used to run around 1650 RPM. Note that when I replaced my stock case fan I no longer saw any case fan speed in Speedfan. Temps are displayed though...

I'm not sure that Vostro Slim is the same as Studio Slim. I bought a Studio Slim from Dell in the UK FYI. Anyway, case fan in the Studio Slim can be replaced by a 80x80x25 fan, fits no problem. You need to just get rid of the plastic surround to which the stock fan is attached. I'm using a...

<updated> I had thought there was a problem with this PSU in that "operating temperature" is only up to 40 C. However I now understand from SeaSonic tech support that they only guarantee 100% power output up to 40C (output decreases linearly between 40-50C to 80%). According to posts elsewhere...

Replace CPU fan only (not heatsink)

Sorry, I obviously wasn't thinking when I posted my initial question... It's an Intel E8400 (Core2Duo 3.0GHz). I assume it has stock heatsink/fan as I haven't messed with it (yet). I have worked out how to remove the fan, just needed some confidence to wiggle things about. Actually very...

Replace CPU fan only (not heatsink)

Is it possible to remove the (stock) fan from the (stock) heatsink and replace with a quieter fan? Cooling is adequate right now but the fan is noisy. Seems like a far cheaper alternative than replacing the heatsink and fan together. I really have google'd this but not found anything...

My problem - cr*ppy PSU - is now fixed. Unfortunately although Dell were very helpful I had to resort to buying my own replacement. I went for a SeaSonic PSU which fits perfectly, is 300W instead of 250W and is near as makes no odds to silent. I'm delighted. If anyone's interested they can...

I second that. I'm going to colour in the lens with a black marker pen. <What do you mean by fizzing noise?>chklin: It's an electrical sound, not mechanical. So like the noise made when something isn't plugged in properly, you can hear a fizzing, crackling noise. Not very reassuring. I can...

Replacement PSU for Dell Studio Slim 540S

Hiya I hope someone can help. Per the title I'm looking to replace the PSU in my Dell studio slim 540S. Although I have replaced the noisy fan, the PSU is still noisy - it makes a high pitched fizzing noise at all times. The stock unit is a AC Bel, model PC7067, 250W. After much googling...

chklin : Great review there. I would like to offer up a criticism of this PC, and see if anyone can advise. I received a 540S studio slim two weeks ago. On the whole I'm very happy with it, but the low quality PSU is a big issue for me. Mine sits in pride of place in my living room, I use...
