AMD Athlon X2 5000 unlocked to Phenom FX-5000

Why does OCCT only show two cores active? When I originally installed and unlocked mine (CACUC 0944FPMW) all four cores showed but after a lockup only three were showing. I installed the newer version of OCCT and now only two appear just as in your screenshot. CPU-Z reports four cores and...

    Can't change email address

Trying to change email from Excite.com to my ISP supplied account, sbcglobal.net, and CP keeps telling me it won't allow it. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Tried emailing the a mod using the link supplied but it kept coming up as an invalid address. Thanks, fiream

Need Help Picking Cheaper AM2 Board

Same here. I'm not interested in debating a moronic issue even a one eyed moron can see. I'm not anyone's fanboy. I call them as I see them. These are easily measurable physical constraints. The OP asked for input. Fanboy considerations aside, he should be aware of the potential shortcomings. If...

Need Help Picking Cheaper AM2 Board

Take another look. Any average video card has a two slot cooler. Place a card, any card, in the third slot and the air intake for the video card is blocked. Not just slightly but completely. If this works for you, great. Unfortunately, vid-chip cooling has become an issue. If on-board sound and...

Need Help Picking Cheaper AM2 Board

I also have the TA 790GX A2+ MB and if I was doing it now I would choose the Foxconn board over the Biostar. Foxconn put the graphics slot (primary) where it belongs and has a decent Mosfet cooler as well. The Biostar has no heatsinking on the Mosfets at all and placed the primary Vid slot on...

Mobo doesn't see BIOS file on flash drive...

Good Deal! That would be too easy though. Never let it be said a MB maker would actually TRY to make something easy:).

Mobo doesn't see BIOS file on flash drive...

Good luck with it. You might have to unhide OS files and recognized file types also. Yoy may need to format the USB drive to emulate a floppy. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/guides-how-tos/1457-how-making-usb-thumbdrive-bootable.html

New SB600 RAID/AHCI Driver from Windows Update

You are either a glutton for punishment or you have large brass ones. Windows Update has a long and sad history of trashing systems with hardware "driver updates". Particularly controller drivers. Unless you just like doing Windows repairs or reloading the O.S. trust only drivers that have been...

Mobo doesn't see BIOS file on flash drive...

Is there an option to back up the old BIOS? If so, do that and see what format it saves the file in. You may need to change the extension (.ROM, .BIN, etc.)

    Need a new mobo ...

The AGP slot has been replaced by PCIe x8 or x16. If you want to keep your current vid card you'll need a board with AGP. DDR400 is good. Should work fine in any board up to and including S939 but an extra 512 meg stick will work wonders. Power supply I'd want to replace if possible. If you do...

    Need a new mobo ...

You have a LOT more options if your system is S462. You could pick up a S939 board and CPU. Most everything else should transfer over as long as you get a board with AGP. Some of the last boards had PCIe and that would require a new video card. If you have a decent power supply and good memory...

Need old tech help, Dual channel with NF3 250?

Yep, I'd forgotten that too until you mentioned it but no big deal. DC definitely offers improvement on the memory bus but it isn't really an earth shattering increase. Use good memory and tweak the timings really tight and you probably won't ever notice it.

    Biostar TA790GX A2+ Install

It seems to be. I couldn't see any difference running some basic benchmarks regardless of how I set the card up. I did some more research on the "GPP" setting and I've found references to it's meaning as "graphics point to point" or alternatively, "graphics peer to peer". Smells like Crossfire...

    Need a new mobo ...

If this is truly an AT tower case then you are pretty limited because anything from the past seven years or so is ATX or mATX and they won't fit in your case nor will they accept an AT power supply. If your keyboard port is the large 9/16" plug then you definitely have an AT based system...

    Biostar TA790GX A2+ Install

For what it's worth, here's what I've found so far: PCI= PCI vid card, IGFX= internal graphics, GFX0= PCIe x16 master slot, GPP= ?. I found this in the FoxConn manual for their 790GX board. They don't list a 'GPP' setting. I'm using an HD3850 in the 'Slave' slot because I need both PCI slots...
