I used a Omega HH501DK Type-K
To measure the ram with the sink on I had drilled a 1/16 hole into the sink so I could measure the temp of the ram with a tiny handled probe. That was the most acurate way I could think of.
Well I got a Tidewater used because I needed to do something about the high temps on my X1900XT. This thing shines on the high end cards. My original temps were
Idle 48c (Windows idle 1 hr)
load 88c (3dmark 2006 1 hr)
Man this card is hot. Now with the Tidewater I got
37 idle...
If you are not overclocking you dont have to cool the ram. The samsung memory on these card (x1800, X1900) have a max thermal temp of 125c. I tested the memory on my X1900XT using a waterblock and no cooling at all on the memory.

load 48c
Thats far from 125c
This is what fixed it for me. Lets test to see if its your harddrive. First.... disable Virtual Memory in Windows by disabling the paging file. Make sure to click set. Reboot the computer. Now F.E.A.R will load into your memory only and not use a paging file. If there is no stuttering...
Makes sense that once you start pushing devices beyond their original specs things start to heat up. Especially if you turn up the voltage. At that point some sort of cooling is probably required. I just wanted to know if it was safe to run the video memory without passive cooling. I guess...
Nope. I didnt have a fan on the naked ram. So it might have been cooler. But Im not to concerned about shaving off 1c or 2c. These things can go up to 125c. So I doubt they are breaking a sweat at 48c.

Im running an Asetek WaterChill CPU Cooling Kit with a 120mm rad box. Im using the WaterChill VGA cooler VGA02/P1. Im just real surprised how hot my x1900xt got with the stock cooling.....but from what Im reading 50c idle and 90c load is normal on this card. must be the 48 pixel shaders. So...
