I've had no need for one ever since they made all Xbox exclusives also available on PC. I like that, too. If infusing life into the Xbox means that'll go away then I say "let it die."
I had a previous model (HX1200) go south on me and they allowed me to me choose one of these as a replacement. I've been super happy with it. It's super easy to work with in my case, the cables are sturdy but not stiff, and the PCIe 5.0 cable is vastly better than the one I had to buy for the...
I haven't touched it since Ed dropped. As much as I want to enjoy the game, I just can't get into the flow of it. Drive rushes drive me bonkers. The fact that Tekken 8 seems to favor my playstyle doesn't hurt, too.
Baldur's Gate 3 is/was riddled with issues but it looks really good next to all of these other games that have performance problems and low production values. Sometimes it's all about perspective and timing. Well, that and Larian's typical responses to things are usually waaaay better than most...
I decided to give this a go just for the hell of it and refunded it after a little under 2 hours. It's just a mess and I didn't find the gameplay fun. Outside of the lighting, the game doesn't look particularly good, either. I tested out the frame-gen mod and it does work, but it doesn't solve...
If you're just looking to play online matches, pop into the Battle Hub area. I think that's what most people are doing at this point. You just sit down at a machine and wait for someone to join, or you can seek out someone with a certain character, rank, etc.
Here's a Reddit thread featuring a Toys R Us ad from the SNES era.

Those are the prices I remember, with certain random games spiking above that. Phantasy Star 4 (Genesis) was more than $80...
Hopefully the frame-gen ends up working better than a lot of other games that axed it just prior to launch. Feels like it always works well initially, but after a while it causes things to go haywire. Lords of the Fallen and Jedi Survivor being prime examples.
Video games were comparatively expensive back in the 80's and 90's. New releases for the NES were typically $50. Some games for the Genesis and SNES (I'll forever remember Phantasy Star 4) went 10-20% above that. The fact that nearly 40 years later we're still paying prices in the same ballpark...
That city area seems like the main culprit for performance issues across all platforms. Hopefully that's something they can better optimize, especially with the graphs shown in the DF video.
It's 2024. There are microtransactions in literally everything. As long as these things aren't exclusives or game-breaking, I couldn't care less. Just don't buy them.
The performance stuff does scare me, though. Seems like that might not be something they can fix.
In that Fextralife review, he mentions needing to jump through a lot of time-consuming hoops. Having the ability to reload an earlier save could prevent a lot of that, so I'm all for manual backups.
It's worth noting about how smooth frame generation feels varies on what controller you're using. Fluidity with a mouse vs. a pad often = night and day different. There are games that feel as smooth as butter with a pad that feel choppy or slow with a mouse. He's using a mouse, but it might kick...
