Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
I would be surprised also, but I can't find it documented anywhere. The H810 specifically supports JBOD, but I don't see that listed on the H840. I hope to be able to confirm it before hand, because it would be a lot of effort (and some risk) if it doesn't support it.
Good question! I know it seems insane. I would be repurposing an existing server for something else, and it already has an H840 in it. Since I'll be working with existing external enclosures with ZFS arrays, it would be really handy if it supported JBOD.
Thanks for helping me out. I half expected to get flamed with "search for it yourself" posts (which I had done), because I've been out of the scene for so long. It's nice to get actual, helpful responses.
I didn't even think of a server chassis with a backplane in it. That's a great idea! I avoided server chassis, because I didn't want to run a mobo, cpu, ram, etc.. But I think powering that chassis (with included backplane), and adapting it with the card you listed will actually work great...
The HPE M6720 is the only enclosure I've found that is similar, but it's still $700+, and because it's HP I assume there will be some compatibility issues.
No, but an external SAS port (with an integrated expander) is. I'll be connecting it to another chassis with a SAS cable (the connector type probably isn't important, as long as I can get a cable to adapt to it).
The last time I added to my NAS was about 5 years ago, when I added a Norco DS-24E, connected with SFF-8088. I'm now looking to add another SAS chassis to my setup, and was planning on purchasing another DS-24E. However, it looks like they are out of production and super expensive (I think I...
I was receiving errors about SMB sharing with the pool version I was on (v31) with Solaris 11.2. Some googling suggested I needed to upgrade to v35 to fix it. I upgraded it and it fixed it. I was also very interested in the sequential resilvering feature on v35.
Yes. I could've done that, or simply copied the VM (which is what I wound up doing) for testing. The issue is with the zpool version that comes with 11.2. If I didn't upgrade the zpool to v35, I couldn't use SMB sharing (which I use extensively in my environment). So if I upgraded to 11.2, I...
Thank you for the reply! All good points, for sure. I read about 11.3, and lots of stuff about it sounds awesome. But I don't want to jump right on the bandwagon of a new release, so I'll probably wait until 6 months or so after its release to upgrade.
I wound up biting the bullet and...
I've had a all-in-one VMWare/ZFS box running for the better part of 5 years. I've recently done some hardware upgrades, which has led me down the path of updating the software i'm running on some of my virtual servers. Since my Solaris 11 box is serving up VMWare with all of my storage space...
1) The plastic piece only exists on the left side. You could set it on the right side.
2) Yes
3) Not that I'm aware of. You could replace the PS and sell the included one, but I think that's your only option.
4) Can't answer this one
5) There's still a lot of fans in the case. Quiet is...
Trust the people that are telling you that's too many drives in one VDEV. While it will work, when you experience a failure, it's going to suck big time. I recently had a very stressful 2-3 weeks because I had 24 drives in a VDEV, and I will never do it again. Also, the performance is...
