Heck yes you can, but you'll be holding yourself to 800x600 or 1024x768, also by maxing everything out, if you exclude FSAA and AA being maxed, you'll be playable, but not 60fps, more like 30-40ish.

We carry the laptop desk and the targus chill mat at Best Buy. I don't remember how the fan setup is on the chill mat but my manager got one for his m6805 and said it didn't do a thing.
And just by looking at the heatpipe setup, I doubt it would even make a difference because I would HOPE...
You forgot to mention SUSE Linux! From what I've heard it's the best supported 64 bit distro out there. I would definately recommend giving it a shot. It was also, I believe, the first "commercial" type distro to do 64 bit.
