I just installed x64 edition.. I have had so many issues trying to install it with errors from 3 different ISOs... So I mounted with DaemonTools and had my Vista x64 disc in the real drive too... This installed it... However, once it's up and running it worked very poorly...

Download the version of Vista that is the same as your XP installation.. So if you're running 32bit right now, stick with it. Personally, I've started running x64 recently with no issues, so I'll be running Vista x64.
