And exactly how is it way over normal? My 6970 easily runs in the high 80's under load, normally at 88-89C and under heavy GPGPU computing temps average ~95 easily. In the [H] review of the 6970 theres was at 89C under load too. Reason? AMD's heatsink design is a bag of shit.

You can't edit clock speeds in the BIOS on 69XX cards. The RBE team have mentioned it a number of times over there. There is some kind of protection in the drivers which stops custom BIOSes with changed clock speeds from booting. You can changes voltage is believe, and do the 6950 to 6970...

I haven't found a way to lower my load Vcore without also lowering my idle vCore, but my 2600k happily runs at 1.6GHz @ 0.800v under idle so i'd say you may have some headroom to go lower.

The biggest problem i see with such a setup is the 256MB of video memory. That could be a real issue in any new game with high texture detail or once AA is turned on.

SLI/Crossfire doesnt multiply memory though, even with 4 of them you'd only have 1GB of total usable video memory :p.
