Cisco 3560G-24PS-S - Can it run IP Services?

Oops, sorry to abandon this post! Thanks for the information. Not long after I made the post, I was browsing eBay and found a WS-C3750G-24TS-E for $65.. shipped! Good to hear about the 3560G switches. I may snag another one or two of those for lab switches. Thanks again!

Cisco 3560G-24PS-S - Can it run IP Services?

There are two Cisco switches that are nearly identical. Both are 24 port Gig PoE. Only difference is the software that came preinstalled. WS-C3560G-24PS-S - IP Base (IPB) WS-C3560G-24PS-E - IP Services (IPS) Can the 24PS-S run IP Services in a lab environment, or are they feature locked based...

    HP 1810-8G v2 vs Netgear ProSAFE GS108T

They're similar, but different. Some differ quite a bit. I was disappointed by this. Also relates to the age of the switch. We have some older smart netgears powering APs where the last firmware released was in 2009, and for example changing the management IP and VLAN is in two very different...

    DHCP Issue

Sorry to resurrect a sleeping thread, but I encountered this recently and found out that it was when using Cisco IP helper to forward DHCP requests in addition to having proxy arp turned on.

High latency / low bandwidth with Infiniband

I'm just using simple connected-mode 20Gbps ipoib between my primary storage box and a linux KVM server. On startup one of my init scripts does: echo connected >`find /sys -name mode | grep ib1` echo 65520 >`find /sys -name mtu | grep ib1` root@titan:~# ping ib-storage PING ib-storage...

    Restricting access on VLAN basis?

I believe you have 2 options: 1- re-address your networks so Layer 3 makes sense, do your ACLs there. Then you can add VLANs on top of that with relative ease. 2- segment the networks and put inline / transparent firewalls between the various 'zones'. This would allow you to do IP ACLs to...

    Cisco selling Linksys

I used to respect and use Linksys in the 90s and early 2000s. My first 10mbit ethernet gear (10mbit Base2/T combo adapters, hubs, early 802.11b gear) and was generally pleased with it. I generally knew what I was getting. Cisco was probably OK buying them but I agree with others they should...

    CCENT/CCNA [H] study group

Took the ICND2 on Thursday, finished with 8 minutes to spare - passed with a score just shy of 900. For whatever reason, there were a *lot* of OSPF questions. I know I flubbed on the DR selection stuff. Alas, though.. passed! Glad to officially be a CCNA and able to move on to CCNP material...

    10gig networking

It makes a lot more sense to me in most cases where you don't already have switches with a few uplinks or a modular bay to accept 10GbE you can still benefit with crossover connections. A direct 10G link to a SAN like the QNAP TS-879 Pro will just cost you a NIC for the server and a NIC for the...

Finally taking my ICND2 on Thursday. Looking forward to finishing it so I can start digging into CCNP stuff.

    Cisco ASA 5505

Just a warning that the NAT style changed in non-trivial ways between 8.2 -> 8.3. 8.3 and 8.4 both use the newer style. You may want to update before you get too deep into a config, if you intend to update in the future and don't want to have to re-write your NAT stuff.

I don't bother with smartnet for my fleabay-sourced home gear. Anything through course of business sure.

Darn, wish I had seen this before you ordered mikey. You may really want to consider returning it and getting a 50 user, or better yet, a SecPlus unit with unlimited users. (And it allows you as many VLANs as you like.) When you figure in desktop pcs, phones, game systems, netflix streaming...
