Good router upgrade over WRT54GS to stream 720P?

Sounds like you are streaming within your home network. If that's the case, you can just look for a good gigabit switch (newegg should have one for cheap). :)

Norco 4220 or 4020? How do I connect all 20 drivers with PERC 6i?

You will need a compatible SAS expander card. Many people use HP SAS expander card.

Impulse buy - Crucial RealSSD C300

I went from 2 older WD raptors in raid0 to C300. The speed increase is very significant. I don't think you will regret buying it.

    ZFS and hardware failure

That's what I did for my system. I didn't have any failure. I was testing ZFS on a test setup and transferred to my server setup. No need to recreate cifs and nfs shares. They are imported along with the array.

Remote Desktop from work to home

I would either go with logmein (has free version), or VPN into your network then RDP.

YAZBT (Yet Another ZFS Build Thread) :)

Sure, but if OP sticks with X8ST3-F, there is not a need for dual socket CPU.

YAZBT (Yet Another ZFS Build Thread) :)

For this build, you can probably look into Xeon W series of processors. W35xx processors are the xeon version of 9xx processors, and does not cost as much as the dual socket cpus, such as E5620.

    Desperate File/Media Server help

Make sure to keep the data on your 2TB drives for a while in case something happens. Or you may decide to try out other stuff like unRAID or ZFS

    Difference between X8ST3-F and X8ST3-F-O

I saw that too. Just ordered one myself, like a week ago. I think they won't have anything until the 21st ish.

    storage server build questions

schnell, I'm a hardware raid guy, at least used to be. I'm recently researching into ZFS, which really does look very good over a raid 5/6. I'm currently running an adaptec 5805. It's overall a good controller, but has some strange behaviors with hard drives not on the compatibility list...

Gigabit switch and wireless access point recommendations

With the cost, I'd rather go with a 8-port procurve 1810G-8. Managed switch with lifetime warranty. I don't think you will go wrong with that.

    Switch question

Only thing is that your main rig, htpc and reveiver will share a single gigabit connection to your 16port switch. So if you are accessing files on your WHS from both htpc and main rig at the same time, you may experience slightly lowered speed, but likely not a big deal

Probably un-plug everything and see what happens. Then plug one device at a time to check if your link light activities.

How To- SSD das boot drive along with Raid 0 (Standard 7.2k Drives)?

Adnan, It sound about right to me. I recently build a new pc with a 120G SSD and 2x120G Raid0. However, I did not install the hard drives at the beginning for the reason that I needed to change a few bios settings and tried to avoid frequent restarts on the hard drives. Once you set SATA mode...
