There's a hack you can do to get software BC back on non BC PS3, I haven't tried it myself but saw some youtube video showing it.

Sony did have software backwards compatibility and removed that too for whatever reason in later versions of the consoles. I'm sure software BC is a lot cheaper than hardware BC, still to this day wonder why they removed it...

I had my 8800 GTX for five years before I upgraded to a GTX 680, It really matter on what PC game made you want to upgrade for and witcher 2 and metro 2033 made me want to upgrade.
Losing game saves, every game on Steam should be Steam Cloud ready. Valve should enforce this rule because most of the games on there are not, there are so many games I never finish or stop playing because of losing my save games.
