    4850 over heating. PC shutting down :(

    starchazer, if the card overheats it should fail, but don't think it will shutdown, it should recover catalyst, or freeze, never shutdown I suspect something else, what you are describing sounds more like the cpu is overheating and shutting down the pc. to test the video card, lower the clock...

    yes something is wrong, you should have seem an increase, I would reinstall the drivers and run GPU-Z to make sure trifire is listed as operational, and for informational, you are as strong as your weakest link, 4870 1gb + 4850 512mb = crossfire mismatch, end up basically with 4850CF 512mb...
