    Well, I took the plunge on this one. Been eyeing the U2711 for some time (the AG coating doesn't seem to bother me, when I saw it in person), but managed to get this for quite a bit cheaper. I'll mostly use it for photo editing, productivity work, some gaming, and very little movie-watching.

    I was recently in the market for a mATX setup (SG03, P5E-VM HDMI on order) and I considered both Intel and AMD setups, especially with the incoming B3 revision Phenoms. This is, until I saw power consumption numbers like this... (my interest was in the 9850 and the Q9300/X3320)...

    Truth be told, I'd be interested in any anecdotes about this as well. I have a SG03 and a P5E-VM HDMI on the way, and trying to decide between an E8400 and a X3320. Higher multiplier for overclocking on the E8400, but more cores with the X3320... choices, choices.

    Yeah the cards are probably a bit overpriced at ZZF - there's a poster around here saying BestBuy (or was it CC) will have the BFG OC version for $280. Oh and to the Englishman - should be 140-150 pounds in your parts.

    Same amount of shaders yes, but increased core clocks (825MHz versus 740MHz). Without AA the 2900XT is pretty on par/slightly faster than a 8800GTS 640MB, so if AMD can tweak the AA performance and increase the core clocks, it bodes well for performance. I'm not saying the 3870 will be faster...

    The 7900GTO is hardly faster than a X1900XT 256MB. It's pretty close with them trading wins, depending on the games you play. It really comes down to price. I purchased my 7900GTO because it was priced less than the X1900XT 256MB and since I prefer a quieter system, the GTO was the right choice...
