I could turn on my old i7-920's and change my 4P to fold SMP, if PG asked nicely and changes the point scheme to make SMP more in line with GPU and BA wu's. Until that time, my 4P rig will continue to fold BA.

the Egg has the MSI 280X in stock for $299 again. It's been popping in and out of stock all day so my advice is to check and refresh as I did not get my in stock alert even though it was setup.

Well, this 4p system is kicking my ass right now. Works fine and folds with the original dual core 8200 processors. I updated the BIOS which was quick and easy. Powered it up and there were no issues. Installed the new 8431's in and all 4 were properly identified, along with the RAM...

I'm at $570 with the supermicro server and 4 8431's. Just under $700 with heatsinks, SSD, a few cables and BIOS chip. Just waiting for the CPU's to show up. I got them for a steal (I think), cheaper than what's listed on the first post.

Thanks Q. I changed the fans to the server setting for now. Default is full throttle. I do have an unused pantry 3 feet from where I have it setup right now that I might toss it into to keep it out of the way. It's chugging away at 15k PPD with the dual cores.

I got my server from neomicro today. Booted up right away. Starting the Ubuntu install and damn those frakken fans are loud. Sounds like a damn vacuum cleaner 2 rooms away. Going to need to quiet this thing down or put it in the garage. My 8431's shipped today, waiting for my BIOS cheep and...

Yep, it will be an F socket ankle biter. The server should arrive today and the BIOS chip should arrive soon as well. I'm going to hopefully get an SSD HD and molex to SATA and molex Y cable tonight. Just need the procs.

I wish I had seen this thread before the prices went up. My eBay server shipped today, the supermicro hq8me-2+ iirc. Got the bios chip ordered. Now I'm looking for 4 of the 8431's. Many thanks to all who contributed to this tread.
