    testing SMB3.0 share for VM's

When I run crystal mark directly on the raid array that contains the csv vhd's I get this. So im loosing 10x the performance with the overhead of isci initiator/target or with smb3.0 or from the network, although it seems odd that it would be from the network since it affects random and...

    raided ssds vs raided hdds

The word fail could mean 2 things , fail as in the drive is useless , or fail as in the raid array has errors but both drives can still be used / and the raid array can be recreated. I have never heard of raid arrays speeding up true failures that render the drive useless. Running SSD's in...

    m.2 storage devices?

There isn't room in tiny laptops (think mackbook air) for a massive ssd (2.5" drive , im being sarcastic about them being massive). SSD's have been limited by SATA 6.0gb/s speeds since practically the day motherboards started arriving with sata 6.0gb/s. m.2 helps fix both of these problems...

    testing SMB3.0 share for VM's

I replaced the smb share with iscsi volumes handled by different masters and a quorum which makes the cluster pass all storage checks. Ran crystal disk mark and got No more write caching? and roughly similar performance.

Need flash drive that shows as fixed disk

Can also confirm the cruzer 16gb shows up as external hard drive instead of a removable drive. I was considering buying a special drive a few weeks ago, and a few weeks later was like huh , i've had one all along... Got it at best buy for 9.99 about 3 months ago. The software for flipping the...

How does Hot Swap Work? is it a Bios Option? Is it Safe?

When hot swap drives are properly configured you can safely remove them and reinsert the same or different drives while the server is running. This sounds like a more useful feature then it usually ends up being for casual use because you'd generally only want to remove a drive if it is...

    testing SMB3.0 share for VM's

I went ahead and setup a windows file server with 2 ssd's for storing hyperv vhd's. The specifics of the setup are fileserver: DL380 G6 with 2 Seagate 600 480gb ssd's in raid 1(+0). Drives are most likely running at sata 3.0gb/s speeds because of SAS drives on same controller which is the...

US Credit Card System Begins Complete Overhaul

If the pin is stored in the card, and you make a fake version of the card, then the card could confirm the pin was correct regardless of what was entered. The Cambridge article mentions using 2 cards, the real one, and one that is programmed just to accept any pin. The real giveaway if the pin...

Ubuntu NAS that doubles as home router?

You can do 1 server, and run 2 virtual machines on it. I currently run pfsense as a virtual machine, but you have to consider a few things before hand. 1) pfsense is based on an old FreeBSD kernel that doesn't have hyperv integration components added (there are iso's available with hyperv nics...

US Credit Card System Begins Complete Overhaul

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMV#Vulnerabilities The section on the 2010 Cambridge discovery that you can use any number as the pin, shows that the pin is just checked against a stored pin on the card? Though it still connects to the bank to check for fund availability? In the US the pin is...

US Credit Card System Begins Complete Overhaul

Chip + pin was invented in 1995, I think the idea then / and what Wikipedia describes it as having an offline option that the card is programmed whether to allow or not. But yes it probably checks it online (or phone) the vast majority of the time now. The pin is also transmitted to the chip in...

US Credit Card System Begins Complete Overhaul

There has been a lot of security issues with "chip and pin" because it was used to allow pins to be checked by storing the pin on the chip and thus not requiring any data connection to check if the pin was correct. This system is basically never going to be implemented in US. Instead in US...

US Credit Card System Begins Complete Overhaul

I believe the information encrypted in the magstripe is easily decipherable with keys that every terminal has and were cracked years ago. Before even connecting to phone / data line the terminal knows the digits / expiration / name of person after swipe. The chip on the other hand might have non...

    HIS voided r9 290 warranty - Options?

Yeah I checked the xfx warranty and didn't see anything similar, although it says use outside of the product instructions isn't covered, I'm to lazy to log in to view the manual. But the manual might say to play counter strike once a night, and grease the grease nuts every 30 miles for all I...
