OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Hi _Gea Thanks for all your tireless work for napp-it and the community. I use your product since many years, and I am still thrilled by how much easier it makes my life, given that I am in no way experienced in the Linux world, and really just enjoy tinkering with a home server ;-) With VMware...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Thanks y'all for your suggestions. My own research points also in the direction of Proxmox. Also, it supports Windows 11 Clients by providing a TPM option, which is great (I hated ESXi for making this topic so difficult for home users). Guess I will start with some trial tests to see how well it...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Hi _Gea So Broadcom has stopped free ESXi versions for home use. I run an "all-in-one" setup as you describe it on your website. Any thoughts on this change? Would you already recommend an alternative? Thanks for sharing!

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Tried that, but it seems it did something to passthrough settings. Can't turn on the NAS VM, it tells me "Failed to start the virtual machine. Device 101:0.0 is not a passthrough device." Any idea what went wrong or how to solve this? Thanks! Edit: checked the config of the VM, there's a PCI...

I see. How about rpool? I imagine OmniOS will not boot when rpool is exported?

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Hey all, I run an AIO napp-it (OmniOS) box on an ESXi 6.7 U3. I have two HBA's built in to connect my harddisks, and I want to add an Nvidia GPU now to assign it to a single VM. I noticed that my only PCIx slot that supports x16 is occupied by one of the HBA's. Is it safe to move the HBA to a...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Hi _Gea Since my rig is quite old by now, it's time for something new. As I have two servers now (1 Esxi and 1 ZFS NAS), I am compelled by your idea of an AIO. I have read your manual on the napp-it website, but would like to run a few things by you, just to make sure I'm not running into...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Again, thanks to _Gea for his invaluable help. I have now upgraded my NAS to OmniOS 151031 (bloody), and my Windows Client now connects using SMB 3.0.2, however, the problem persists. I hope the guys at the VLC Forum can help me further on this one.

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Oh wow, sorry, that was a noobie one... So I made it to r151028, but as predicted in your docs, SSH didn't start afterwards, so I logged into napp-it (which was on 19.01c1, so presumably new enough) and tried to "set defaults after 151028 update". It gave me a number of errors in the process...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Thanks for the hint, so I was able to install the certificate according to your manual. Then I proceeded following the same document to upgrade to r151024, then r151026. Both went through without errors, but I wondered when my system rebooted, it always came up with r151022, apparently -...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Hi _Gea Tried to upgrade my box, however, I get certificate errors which I cannot solve, such as this one: Can you please help me getting past this? I try to upgrade from OmniOS r151022 to r151026 (for above message), I also tried going to r151024 or r151028, all resulting with the same type of...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes it's only VLC Player. I can do anything on these shares using Windows Explorer. I can play the video files using Windows Media Player. Only VLC is not playing them. I have restricted Windows according to the article (powershell and "activate features" method)...
