AbsoluteTelnet is what I use. Much cheaper than SecureCRT. Also has a trial version.

Most of the tools are still current, links might have expired though. I still use MBAM, SAS and ComboFix to clean up infected PCs. Security Essentials for free AV software. One of these days, if I ever find some spare time, I might just revise/update that post...

Not a problem. For some reason VMware tools never installs the right driver with Server 2008 R2 and I'm assuming the Win8 versions. I usually just go to update driver on the standard vga adapter then navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\Drivers\ and then install the wddm video driver...

Did you check to see what video driver it installed? Sounds like it's using the standard VGA adapter...

I have not flashed the BIOS yet. I got it up and running with UTM9 and am working from home this morning so I'm hesitant to do any flashing yet. May give that a whirl tonight after I hit the gym. :)

Hadn't gotten that far yet. Was trying to exhaust all other options before doing that. If you read SuperMicro's manuals and their downloads page they put "DON'T EVER UPGRADE THE BIOS EVER NEVER EVER" in giant red letters all over the place. I couldn't find any mention of bugs or other issues...
