    Areca 1680 memory upgrade Q's

I did expect the 4GB to more expensive, but I never thought it would be that expensive!

    Areca 1680 memory upgrade Q's

The cheapest price i could find for a 2GB KVR667D2D8P5 module was around $36, whereas the 4GB module is around $546. So I ordered the 2GB module :-)

    Areca 1680 memory upgrade Q's

Thanks a lot for the links. I did some searching before opening this thread but didn't find anything, I guess I didn't search hard enough! :-) I'll check again if the 4GB modules can be had for a reasonable price, otherwise I'll probably just throw in a 2GB module. Unfortunately the 4GB...

    Areca 1680 memory upgrade Q's

I would like to upgrade the memory on my Areca 1680ix-16 to 4G, but I'm not sure what module to get. The module that came with the card seems to be a DDR2-533Mhz with ECC. So I've found the following modules that might work. Kingston: KVR533D2Q8R4/4G (ECC, registered) KVR533D2Q8R4/4G...

    About Areca ARC-1680ix

Sounds like a good advice. I'll keep that in mind.

    About Areca ARC-1680ix

Well, the 1680ix-16 is actually cheaper then the 1231ml and 1280ml where I'm ordering. And I like the idea of SAS support, even if I don't need it right away. How are WD compatility with the 1680ix? I would also expect the WS 2TB to drop in price soon, so they might become a real alternative...

    About Areca ARC-1680ix

The 1680ix is part one of at larger project to expand my current storage server. The next thing will probably be a Norco RPC-3116 cabinet. My existing solution consists of an Adaptec 3805 8x1TB WD RE2-GB in RAID 5. This array has performed really well, but the few times I have expanteded it...

    About Areca ARC-1680ix

Check, I'll order some extra cable with the card. I think I'll much rather have a controller that's picky about what drives it uses then live with the extremely slow OCE of the Adaptec card I have now.

    About Areca ARC-1680ix

Hi I'm about to order one of these cards (16 port model), but I'm unsure about what cables are in the box. I can't find any info on Arecas own site. According to pictures on newegg it seems like there are only minisas to minisas cables in the box, can anyone confirm this?

More than 8 drives on Adaptec 3805, options?

My plan was to backup my existing array and then build another one on the 16 port controller. But if I was to buy either a 31605 or even a 51645 could I take that array a put it directly on the new controller? This is mainly because I have an opportunity to sell my 3805 now. The new array...

More than 8 drives on Adaptec 3805, options?

You different answers seems to confirm my suspicion, that it is actually cheeper to a new card anyway. This approach will at least let me keep my Stacker :-) I would probably end up buying the Adaptec 31605 card, because I will not need the extra speed the 51645 card offer, and it is quite...

More than 8 drives on Adaptec 3805, options?

Hi I am looking for option to upgrade my current setup, which consists of: Case: CM Stacker Controller: Adaptec 3805 Drives: 8xWD 1TB RE2-GP in raid-5 I am looking for ways to expand my storage without replacing my case or controller, and since the 3805, in theory, should be able to...
