• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

    External monitor

Are you mirroring the display, or trying to add it as a 2nd monitor? It should be able to output the laptop's display to the VGA output at the same resolution, but some older laptops have limited support for secondary monitors.

any info on this Alienware laptop?

I'd avoid it, if I were you. A friend of mine has one and the video card got so hot that it melted the motherboard underneath it. You'd be better off searching for a different model than this one. Something with a mobile processor for sure. Plus this laptop is very heavy. 13lbs plus the...

tips for weather proof computer / covers?

I think you're mistaken. Condensation forms from warm moist air coming in contact with a cool surface. That's why water droplets form on your MtDew can. The only way to prevent condensation inside the case is to do one of two things. One, remove the moisture from the inside of the case with...

    Dell Laptop LCD Panels

To give better color definition in bright light. An LCD with a matte finish reflects more of the ambient light in a room, making the screen look washed out and flat.

    Thinking about a macbook pro....

When I said Motorola, I was referring to the command set, not the manufacturer. IE motorola VS x86 command set. Running Rosetta is similar to running VirtualPC on a Gx processor. Too slow to be useful for powerful apps.

    laptop video problem

Do you use X Windows in Linux? or are you strictly at the command prompt? You may have a corrupt BIOS. Try resetting the BIOS. Not sure what the steps are for your laptop, but remove the main battery, then either remove the clock battery, or reset the jumper that clears the BIOS. If that...

GFs screen cracked, can it be upgraded?

You need to find out what chipset the video controller is using and see if it can drive the other screen. If the video is on the mainboard then most likely yes, because GW probably wouldn't develop 2 different motherboards for the same computer just to upgrade the LCD. If the video is on a...

    Dell Laptop LCD Panels

The glossy screens are almost CRT-like in clarity. In bright sunlight, a standard LCD looks faded and washed out. I have an Alienware with the glossy screen and it's head and shoulders above the matte LCDs. That being said, XP is pretty good at dithering screen fonts etc. these days. Get...

    Thinking about a macbook pro....

If you're into the look, go for it. If you want to try OSX, go for it. If you're a graphics user who wants to work on the go, I'd wait a few months until the apps have been ported. No progs made for OSX-Motorola will work on an OSX-Intel machine. that being said, I want one, myself. :D I...

Possible to "extract" LCD screen from old laptop and use it as a standalone monitor?

Unless you're an electronics engineer, then most likely not. There is a FAQ in the modding section here. It will give you more details. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=758610

    Touchpad with touchscreen characteristics?

I have been thinking of getting one of these for my computer. It's not a bad retrofit if you can't afford to buy a tablet or a monitor with built-in touchscreen. http://www.magictouch.com/

Estimates as to How much the Origami will cost?

For $600-1000, I at least have to take a look at it. Most of the reason I haven't gotten a PDA is that I don't want the reduced functionality of the PDA OS. Something that's the size of a hardcover book but runs XP or Vista (in the fall) is something I'd like. For just a few $$$ more...

    Wierd Monitor Problem

Check to see if you have a missing or bent pin at the video card or at the monitor (if the cable is removable from the monitor.) More than likely, you either have a bent pin or a cable went bad. She wouldn't have to jerk the cable hard. Sometimes they fail with normal movement. Try swapping...

    hole in motherboard tray ok?

As long as you have enough metal left to support the board, you're fine. Make sure you do your cutting/grinding/sanding away from any electronic equipment and you clean the metal well before you use it. Don't want any metal dust in the electronics.

    Hole saws and plastic

As others have said, go slow. I cut for a couple of seconds then stop to let it cool. For thin plastic, support it with scrap lumber so you don't crack the plastic. And tape where you're going to cut so that you don't scratch or mar the surface.
