AMD to release Athlon X2 6400+.

Thats part of the reason I upgraded to Dual core. Plus I just couldn't resist the 170 for $115.00 I think these intel fanboys are getting worried. I wonder what else AMD has up their sleeve.

    4800+ x2 s939 shutdown problems

pistyll n00bie-- Good that you got it fixed. I was getting ready to start changing parts too. To remove the IHS you need a real thin razor blade and cut a little at a time. The cooler does fit a little loser but with the IHS on it was real tight. It is tight enough to work properly though. I...

    $180 for an opty 180 or $67 for an X2 3800? (s939)

That is just what I did. I am going to wait until this dual core quad core ---AM2 and AM3 stuff gets sorted out. Go with the opty they are overclocking well.

    Preparing for dual core

I didnot have to reformat. All did was set the cpu settings to auto in bios--- install the 170 ---and I did the AMD fix and the Microsoft fix. The computer is faster than the SD3700 @ 2655 MHZ.it replaced. And it totally stable.

    4800+ x2 s939 shutdown problems

Ok I am having that same problem. When I overclocked at first it would restart. Then I backed of the overclock to a previous stable overclock. Now it just shuts down completely. Cooling is not the problem. Shutdowns are random. Load or no load. It does super PI with no problem. I Was...

    Athlon 64 X2 or Opteron X2?

I thought the optys were better because they have a larger L2 cache. Id say go for the 170 because of the better multiplier.
