We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.

    WD ssds, yay or nay?

Ive put a couple of the WD Blue SSDs into workstations and they seem to be just fine. If you are not worried about the warranty (I think its still 3-years which is pretty good) and the machine is not mission critical, I would say yay.

Looking into toying with jumbo frames and have a question or two...

The only time it is okay to use jumbo frames is when your enabled network is physically segregated from the non-enabled network. Otherwise you will run into issues down the road - and troubleshooting those kind of network issues is never fun. The only real application I've ever used jumbo frames...

    Windows 10 Privacy Statement

Anyone find this scary?... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-privacy-statement Basically it says that they can collect everything about you - location, name, interests, programs you use, the network your computer is on... EVERYTHING!

    Remote Access/Streaming Server 2008

I use Plex to stream media to my 2 Rokus in the house. When i want to get my media out into the world (access it from outside my home network) i use subsonic or SSH into the plex. I get media on my machine using uTorrent. Simply torrent the files into the server and Plex and Subsonic access...

    More ntoskrnl.exe BSOD crashes

That's actually not to bad of an idea. Linux can usually give you a better idea of what the troubles are as it lets you see what happening with more in depth tools/logging. In-fact, he should just dump Microsoft all together!

    Server 2012

I second the Professor Messer site. Packed with useful information and he has a lot of videos on YouTube. You could probably replace a tech school and get the same education by doing a self study on that site. Plus it is a great place to get certification study material if you are ever thinking...

ESxi and NAS vs Esxi/NAS All in one?

Separate. Allows you to add storage as you go (although you could always add NAS down the road either way) and you don't have to even think about controller pass-through and the limitations that can bring. Keeping your storage separate from what I call the 'head' also keeps everything more...

    Good small business printer

Ricoh MFPs are great. Once you get the interface down they are solid and easy to configure (good web interface). I like Cannon for their large format color printers but I have had no experience with them as a MFP. Good brand tho (bought Oce). For personal printers Brothers all the way! Their...

Random question about propping up case and HDD mounting

You know, you could also run some SMART tests on the drives to make sure that they are not being adversely affected by their position.

Random question about propping up case and HDD mounting

According to manufacturers 90 degrees is recommended but in the real world there is no difference. I have seen cases that mount the disk vertically. I think that heat would be more of a problem then mounting the disks askew. One thing to keep in mind is that you do not want to move the disk...

Am I wrong? Swapping RAID disks between controllers

Yea, that's what seems strange to me. You think that they would have made it more friendly to this type of procedure if this was in fact proper procedure.

Am I wrong? Swapping RAID disks between controllers

I have done this using the Linux kernel and have had no problems. This seems like a fine solution if it is only being done once in a while but not as regular operating procedure. Especially if it is not hot swapable. Why is it not hot swapable!?!?!
