go for the S64 2500 - my wife's is running at 2.1GHz stable with the stock HSF and 512MB of PC3200. i am running the A64 2800 Clawhammer at 2.25GHz stable on the stock HSF and 2 512MB PC3200's. mobo's are the Chaintech VNF3-250.
that S64 from 1.4 to 2.1 is killer for a $60.00 chip...
i have owned a few computers, starting with an Atari 400, then C64, 286, various Mac's, and even a Sparc 20.
my first x86 system was an Intel 286-8MHz with a whooping 16MB of RAM. this was in 1990. in 1992 i put together my first home built system using an AMD 386-16MHz - even had the 387...
i prefer to barter my time and skills for lunch or use of a pickup truck for a run to the county dump or to get mulch in the spring. or just do it because your a nice guy. better yet, have him do the work as you watch. nothing like helping others learn - but make sure you can still use the...
what is your perceived the use of this computer? gaming, web surfing, audi/video processing, server? without knowing that, i could easily spend your money on a system that you would never get close to using it's full potential.
now for my opinion... there is no way i'd drop $1400 on...
if it's not too late - go with the Chaintech VNF3 250 and the S64 2500 overclocked to 1.8 or 2.0GHz. even with 512MB of RAM, this is a fast and stable system - perfect for cruising the web, editing digicam images, and listening to mp3's, and all for about $160.00. if you need a case and...
i was looking to upgrade to an A64 from an AXP and ended with 2 754 socket systems - my wife was supposed to get the AXP, but i ended up picking up an S64 2500 and an A64 2800. both are overclocked - the S64 is at 2.1GHz with 512MB RAM and the A64 is at 2.2GHz with 1GB RAM. both use the...
finally some numbers from Prime95 with both processors at roughly 2GHz. both a re stable, but the S64 runs cooler (40 idle, 43 load)
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 2800+
CPU speed: 2001.48 MHz
CPU features: RDTSC, CMOV, Prefetch, 3DNow!, MMX, SSE, SSE2
L1 cache size: 64 KB
L2 cache size...
i have run every benchmark under the sun and in the end, the A64 is only beating the S64 by a narrow margin - a margin that probably doesn't justify the price difference. the PC3200 is bumped down due to the OC'ing on both processors and i'm using an old drive compared to the new one in the XP...
if it comes down to just a difference of 200MHz for $56 more, i'll save the money and take my wife out to dinner. there has to be more to the difference in Sempron vs. Athlon - less speed and less cache? both are 64bit enabled now.
it's no wonder people think technology is hard to...
running the A64 right now - it's stable at 2250 (250x9) with the other mult at 3x. the temp is 60-61c at load - not much i can do there - maybe back down the clock a tad. the core voltage is 1.52v.
i'm not sure i can really see a difference between the sempy at 2.0GHz and the A64 here at...
i have a limited budget for this and therefore need to stay with AGP video. the budget is $250 and going to the nForce4 means a new videocard - money i don't have for this project. i decided the 754 gives me 64bit, AGP video, and is easy on the wallet. i figured i could load up on RAM and OC...
old system:
Asus A7N8X-X
AXP 2800 Barton OC'd to 2.2GHz w/stock HSF
512MB Crucial 133 PC-2100
new system:
Chaintech VNF3 250
S64 2500 Palermo OC'd to 2.0GHz w/stock HSF
also have an A64 2800 ClawHammer OC'd to 2.2GHz w/stock HSF
2x512 Corsair 400 PC-3200
not sure if i really gained...
how's this look? am i pushing this too far?
S64 2500 cpu-z validation
is the OC on the CPU costing me RAM performance? that's what i'm not understanding i guess.
