When I try and run a test, it will sometimes pass and sometimes fail - the error doesn't occur under the same conditions each time, which makes it near impossible to replicate, let alone diagnose. I will post back here later after I finish, or hopefully, after I find the problem! I actually have not installed any codec packs, as VLC can handle the .mkv container natively...

    I reset the CMOS 3 separate times between installs of Windows just to be safe. The option to disable the onboard video isn't an option; instead you select which video device is initialized... same result I am sure, but yes I switched the BIOS settings between the onboard and add-in card...
