Microcenter 5600X3D Back In Stock $179.99

I just sold mine yesterday.....great CPU.
I used mine to run WMR racing titles and it was super smooth.
Only reason I sold it was because I had some DDR5 laying around doing nothing and got an MSI Mag Tomahawk board at a good price.
Don't blame you honestly. And if it was 32 or 64gbs then kinda a no brainer

BTW if anyone wants one, I can arrange something as my current gig takes me by MC in Tustin all the time. Happy to ship one to someone at cost with shipping and a tip 🤣

should i upgrade my 2x sons 5600x for xmas? one is starting to play more mature games, like tarkov, star citizen and a bunch of others. Might do it.

The 3d cache really helps on open world games. As for core counts, if you already happen to have a 5800X3D, you can run a game on six of the cores and see how it does. If you don't notice a difference, the 5600X3D should run it as well as the 5800X3D as the clock speeds are nearly identical. In certain titles, the 5800X3D just stomps a 5900X, all else being equal.

Yeah, I would think the performance difference would be lost on most kids or even adult gamers. I upgraded my son's rig from a 2600 to a 5600X and then again to my old 5800X3D and in most of his games saw no difference to the 5600X and that was a huge upgrade on paper. But like you said it's highly game dependant and some games are much more dependant on the CPU than others.

I play Helldivers 2 a lot and that game is CPU bound literally 1/3 of the time I'm playing even on my 9800X3D, so I imaging playing that on a 5600X vs 5600X3D could see noticeable gains in some scenarios. But in the majority of games I wouldn't expect any noticeable difference.

He mostly plays hd2 as well and potentially wow:forever. Maybe ill get them just as a fun gift and quality time making them do the upgrades

That's the catch with X3D, big case of YMMV. However, when the X3D works, it really, really works. You may be able to do some searching on the specific games and see how others have done.

Trainz 2019 is a prime example, 5800 X3D silky smooth, 5900 X nearly unplayable in complicated sections of the map. The X3D parts also see boosts in flight sims. Generally, the boost occurs when the CPU is really loaded up. You could look at the CPU load with the current 5600X and if it is low I doubt going to a 5600 X3D would help much.

I do think the 5600X3D will have longer legs than the 5600X. In a normal world, this would not mean much, but with AI pricing, we could be in for a long drought.
