NVIDIA Reportedly Informed AIBs About GeForce RTX 50-series SUPER GPU Delay

The non-appearance of GeForce RTX 50-series "Blackwell" SUPER graphics cards at CES 2026 came as a major shock for portions of the PC hardware community. Normally, NVIDIA sticks to a fairly regular release cadence—barring a few hiccups here and there—with the launches of new gaming products and mid-gen refreshes. Unfortunately, current market conditions have affected a wide swath of manufacturers—prompting price hikes, supply chain adjustments, launch postponements, and rethinks of next-gen technology strategies. As laid out in TechPowerUp's recent top five "biggest no-shows of CES 2026," Team Green's much-anticipated current-gen GeForce product refresh gets top billing.

Last Thursday (January 8), members of the Board Channel community engaged in speculative talk of NVIDIA's alleged indefinite delay of GeForce RTX 50-series SUPER GPUs. One participant outlined three main reasons behind this disappointing postponement, reportedly extracted from a brief issued to board partners. According to this leak, the first factor is production capacity being adjusted to favor compute GPU lines—current demand, especially overseas, needs to be satisfied. Most importantly, greater profit margins are being pursued in the extremely lucrative AI server segment. The second bullet point focuses on a long-term forecast for escalating memory-related product costs—a serious problem for modern graphics cards that utilize fancy GDDR7 VRAM modules.”

There is always other issues at play with AMD launches to. The 9070XT would have been a good card at its MSRP, or near it. But it was more expensive than Nvidia's counterpart for a long time.
Yeah I regret paying $800+ for my 9070XT Red Devil. I never realized how much I would regret not having CUDA support. :(

Which manufacturer are people recommending now that Evga is out of the game? With the launch cadence changing seemingly over time to longer and longer gaps, buying the top end maybe isn’t as crazy as it once seemed.

This is what happens when a company is only really competing with themselves. AMD is so far behind in the market at this point that NVIDIA doesn't even really have to factor in what it does. Not only that, but NVIDIA obviously cares less and less about the GPU market by the day as its no longer its bread and butter. We really need a another option. AMD is way behind NVIDIA, Intel is way behind both and due to mismanagement, lack of funding or whatever, it's not really positioned to compete on NVIDIA's level anytime soon if ever.

Nvidia RTX 50 Super GPUs are reportedly ready, but stuck in limbo due to excessive GDDR7 pricing — 3GB GDDR7 module costs triple the price of 2GB

These GPUs will probably be more expensive than ever

The upcoming Super refresh of the Nvidia RTX 50-series GPU is reportedly on hold due to the high cost of 3GB GDDR7 memory chips. A VideoCardz source confirmed that one board partner already has RTX 50 Super GPUs on hand, but Nvidia has allegedly told the company that the products are on hold because of the price of 3GB GDDR7 memory chips.

According to the publication, the cards expected to be released soon include the RTX 5080 Super, RTX 5070 Ti Super, RTX 5070 Super, and RTX 5050 9GB. The first two will each receive 24GB of GDDR7 VRAM with a 256-bit bus width, while the RTX 5070 Super will have 18GB of VRAM with a 192-bit bus width. Unfortunately, these chips cost twice or thrice as much as their 2GB variants, which will likely push the retail price of these cards beyond Nvidia’s envisioned MSRP.
