Hey guys,
I ended up RMAing my 7900XTX to MSI and they told me they can't send another over since they discontinued it and offered to send a 5080 instead, which I accepted. Just wanted to get some opinions on the power supply side. I'm currently running an MSI MEG 850W unit that has no native 12V-2x6 support. I'm already leery about the 12V-2x6 connector given its history (although less with the 5080 than a 5090 since the 5090 is redlining the thing), but it's the only option with the 5080. I had two questions I wanted people's opinions on:
1) I understand it's technically fine to use the adaptor the card will ship with to plug the connector into the 8-pin cables native to the PSU, but would it be better to have a PSU with native 12V-2x6 support considering how fickle this connector seems to be?
2) Although the 850W PSU should be well within the power window of my system, if I do upgrade to one with native 12V-2x6 support, would it be worth it to get a 1000W unit just to protect against transient spikes and things like that, or just stick with 850W?
Thanks!
