This game and Solid Snake coming out rather play this. People asking for a Demo though since its a big risk on a new Ip.

just 2.5 weeks away from release...Bloober Team games are usually very buggy at release with major performance issues...I guess we'll find out soon

Yeah I had issues with an older game of theirs (observer) so it wouldn't be surprising if this one needed a bit to iron out some issues. We'll see of course it does look promising.

'The Medium' looked really cool but was in really bad shape at launch...was also one of the early ray-tracing games so maybe that contributed to the performance issues

I don't condone pre-ordering, but if you preorder this on Steam before the game launches on 9-05-25, you will get a free copy of The Medium as well.

And one more thing… we’ve got a little extra for everyone interested in the game: pre-order Cronos: The New Dawn and The Medium will be added to your Steam library as a bonus.

This offer also applies to existing pre-orders.

Stuttering: There is no obvious traversal stutter issue (stutters that happen every time you pass through the same section) but there are some shader comp stutter, even though the game does a pre-comp step on first load of the game. The bit at the start approaching the gate has this stutter as the next areas loads, it's quite significant and driops the fps to the 40s.

With a 4K output res and using Epic settings, performance without upscaling is terrible on a 4090, sub 30fps! It is sub 60fps with DLSS4 set to Performance (which is excelelnt quality using Preset K these days so no issues there with IQ) in various areas but typically can be 50-60fps and 90-114fps when Frame Gen is enabled and this is fine, responsive and smooth. DLSS 4 us using Preset K here, so everything is sharp with very minor ghosting in motion.

DualSense (using a Hexgaming Phantom) controller support works flawlessly, the advanced haptics are very immersive in this game, I like that, stick movement and camera feel natural, too. The controller speaker is also utilised when doing certain actions which is cool to see.

The audio in the game is fantastic, highly recommend headphones or HiFi grade speakers for a truly scifi experience.

The visuals are very nice, but there is black level lift, meaning OLED gamers won't get inky blacks in this game which is a shame, this is a clear art direction by the devs which is a shame as a QD-OLED gamer....

I would avoid getting this at the moment and wait to see IF Bloober Team patches the performance at least the shader stutters, and then the CPU utilisation as even my 12700KF is being underutilised with 20% package utilisation being the norm on average whilst my 4090 is holding 99% utilisation, so this does indicate a CPU optimisation issue in the game, especially considering other UE5 releases lately do not have this issue. A 4090 can enjoy this game in its current state if using Frame Gen, but this should not be acceptable in 2025 as this is not the type of GPU most gamers will be trying this with.

My specs::
Mobo - Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X
CPU - Intel i7 12700KF @ Stock
RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB DDR4 3600MHz CL18
GPU - Zotac RTX 4090 Trinity @ 975mV, +1100MHz VRAM, 2730MHz core
SSD - 2TB Samsung 990 Pro NVMe (primary)
SSD - 8TB Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus NVMe
Display - Alienware AW3225QF 32" QD-OLED @ 3840x2160, 240Hz, 10-bit
OS: Windows 11 Pro 24H2

reviews are a mixed bag...some love it, some think it's good but not great...overall everyone agrees that the game has some really bad bugs/performance issues (player gets stuck in environment, certain events won't trigger etc)...sounds worth playing once it gets a few patches

don't most games not have true black?...movies and TV series on OLED's are made to take advantage of the infinite contrast of OLED but video games rarely have black levels to match

Here is a comparison against Indiana Jones:

Cronos with max settings, RT enabled with Native 4K TAA:

Indiana Jones with Path tracing enabled with native 4K DLAA:

So there e have a full path traced game in native 4K producing higher fps than a game not even using full hardware RT let alone PT... All because of what appears to be very poor optimisation.

The mind boggles.

So, it's a typical Bloober game, in other words.
No it's entirely an art direction choice by the devs. Dead Space remake is perfect for example, as is Silent Hill 2 remake.
And Resident Evil 2 remake. The other issue is mastering the color in the wrong color space, so black is elevated. If it's also developed for console first, it's likely YCbCr, which the lowest color value is 13 when converted to RGB.

This, Bloober games always run awful and have technical issues. Though I will say Silent Hill 2 (as of the recent builds) ran nicely for me while looking nice, exception being typical micro stutters. But I know it was awful at release.

The combo of Bloober team and Unreal Engine means of course you will get stuttering with zero chance of it ever being fixed. The Medium still stutters and has performance issues in spots. Silent Hill 2 remake still has stuttering issues. The Observer Redux in DX12 is a stuttering shitshow. All those games have very positive reviews and it looks like Cronos does too at the time for now. People have bottom of the barrel standards so why would Bloober team give a shit about how their games run?

Maybe, or perhaps, the games are good enough that despite the stuttering, people find them fun anyway?
