Wow, but only 3GB?
Nintendo is the master of optimization.

Not at native resoloution, fuzzy edges created by a master of wastefulness.
I was able to waste 1,006,054 bytes simply by re-saving as windows bitmap.

Some info from the Nintendo leak: https://www.destructoid.com/nintend...s-weren-t-simple-and-comfortable-589816.phtml
"As part of that Nintendo leak, an internal powerpoint was found that spells out the reasons they went for friend codes. Apparently they thought signing up for screen names would be too confusing for the audience, and they would be frustrated if they didn't get the ones they want." Yeah, a bunch of random numbers and letters is less confusing than normal usernames.

You'd be less skeptical if you ever had someone think they had your email address. There's a woman a few states away from me with the same first and middle initials and last name who tried to register for a gmail account several years ago, but I've had it since like 2005. Every six months or so she'll set up a new account: car insurance, aliexpress, once I got a plane itinerary.

Oh, also--friend codes are annoying because they're random, but they're also egalitarian. It's not like email, where the first person to come along gets "rick" or whatever and then everyone beyond that has to be "rick23" or struggle to come up with something clever, or just be xxPrincess_420xx

Wii has been hacked for years. Not really all that exciting IMO.

Let me guess, the person who made the image saved it in 24-bit color?
It definitely is a lot larger resolution than the native NES resolution at the very least. Throwing the image into paint, and saving it as at a proper resolution that reflected the NES hardware as well as color pallet got me closer to a 24kB picture size.

Plus it's not like the size of a picture is reflective of game size, you could do the same thing with a screen capture of an Atari 2600 game as well. You have an element, sprite, that is small, but you put a lot of them on screen it makes the subsequent picture larger, without requiring a huge cartridge size.

Don't get me wrong, they definitely used programming tricks, because back then that translated to real cost savings so was worth it, not like today where it's like "eh so what if they need to download another 3 gigs... it's not like it's real"

Wow, but only 3GB?

"Approximately 3GB of files appears to have been released, but some 4chan posters there and elsewhere believe that these leaks are only a small part of a much bigger cache of proprietary company information that hasn’t yet been fully released.

Nintendo did not immediately respond to a request for comment."

Why the surprise?

Do you even remember how much flash storage the Wii shipped with? 512MB flash storage. For the OS plus downloaded games!

Why would you expect the OS leak to be larger? even with the development environment, it's quadruple the size of the shipping OS (at-most.)

And you could fit 8 of the largest N64 games into that same 512MB memory space; so again, those unreleased games are lost-in-the-noise of the Wii development environment. Of course it's tiny!
