Hi Guys,

Currently using a Schiit Modi 2 Uber and Magni 2 uber stack to power my Sennheiser HD650's.

I am looking to add some active monitors to my setup.

I have an RCA preamp on my DAC, however the monitors i wish to purchase show TRS or XLR input's only.

Here is my stack connections:

Here are the connetions for my proposed monitors:

During my googling i have found an adapter:

Now, my questions are:

  • Is there another/better method of connecting these components?
  • Would there be any loss in quality using the above adapter?

Thanks for your time.

TRS has direct connection cables to RCA that are very common and inexpensive - can eliminate any “pro” markup on the XLR and get the same audio. That TRS looks like 1/4” jack - same as on some headphones and electric guitars.

the balanced XLR connector is for “pro” equipment, the adapter just eliminates the ground. Doing so should be the same as the ungrounded TRS.

OK thanks for the information, for a pair of the mentioned monitors i would need something like this correct?

Yeah. You probably want single cables versus the double stereo ca me you have selected (unless you want to split that stereo cable in half or set your speakers right next to each other) - but that appears to be the correct cable
