The NVIDIA GeForce Hotfix Driver Version 418.99 has been released and it addresses the following issue: Windows 7x64/8.1x64: Fixes random application crash or TDR introduced in previous GeForce display driver 418.81. The official NVIDIA forum post discussing the driver is here.

The GeForce Hotfix driver is our way to trying to get some of these fixes out to you more quickly. These drivers are basically the same as the previous released version, with a small number of additional targeted fixes. The fixes that make it in are based in part on your feedback in the Driver Feedback threads and partly on how realistic it is for us to quickly address them. These fixes (and many more) will be incorporated into the next official driver release, at which time the Hotfix driver will be taken down.

*Note the driver is for Win 7 & 8.1*

"fixes random application crash and TDR"....

Wow, that's.... disappointing.

Guess since I'm on Win7 I should install this?

Can I just install it right on top of the 418.81 without issue??

You weren't getting TDRs with .81?

417.71 is the latest one I can use without TDRs.

Well, We will see if it resolves my screen blanking issue on my 2080Ti... Nope... no good for my on Windows 10. YeAy!

Does your screen turn black randomly? I have some odd issue with my current card, sometime it will randomly goes into black screen and comes back up.

Sometime it required to redo the Displayport to make it come back....

I've been tracking down why I have spurious crashes for the last 2 weeks but hadnt come across anyone complaining of similar so assumed its my system.
I finished checking the hardware last night, stable as a rock, and have been slowly installing a fresh copy of Windows with the hundred or so hours of messing around needed to get it how I like.
And its just the bloody driver, I forgot I had changed it.
Your QA is almost as good as MS ;) Although it seems my QA sucks too lol, but at least it affects nobody else.
Thanks NVidia.

I had hoped they fixed the iray/optix issue that prevents it from running at all.

This better not be a ruse to try and force people using GTX cards for rendering to switch to quadro/tesla.

Same here. Didn't happen on my 1080Ti...

I think it's just a win7 thing, the release notes for .91 mentioned it as well (Windows 7 Issues: Random TDR events occur. [2500396])

The windows display driver model was updated from Win 7/8 to 10. There are new pre-emptions that can happen in 10 that can't/don't happen in 7/8. Then the nv driver times out on old windows. Nvidia has been at the tdr problem on 7/8 ever since 10 came out.

No crashes since I installed this update.
Relief, there would have been 3 or 4 by now.
The QA'd drivers are not fit for release when they shaft a system this badly at idle!

I did have a random crash to desktop in Resident evil remake. It was running fine and bamn desktop lol. No error, game just disappeared from the screen. I was like WTF. Happened once but I haven't played the game since.

I will wait to update to the next driver.

It actually happened with my 2080. But hasn't happened with my 2080ti. I am unsure if its memory related or what, my 2080ti does have Samsung memory. But I think I am just assuming that. It might be related to drivers and my freesync though on the first freesync driver. But it hasn't happened with the newer driver. I would probably try different display port as well, sometimes that fixes it as well.
