While not a day goes by that we do not see clickbait videos "reporting" on Fortnite, this one is actually somewhat interesting, especially if you are a Fortnite gamer. Celia Hodent is talking about the game's user interface. Not that I play very often, but I did learn a few things from the video, if you can understand her. There is also a GoFundMe to buy her a new microphone. I made that part up.

Video.

Celia Hodent, Director of UX for Epic Games (2013-2017), breaks down Fortnite's UI/UX and goes over the small details that many players may not notice.

My stepson is totally addicted to this game.

I've only briefly looked at it. It seems mostly harmless to me.

This comic is 100% accurate though:

Sounds like a low pass filter, or the mic's element is actually *under* her shirt collar.

Can't help but be envious though. I'd love for Valve to take this approach with Team Fortress 2. (eleven years and I'm still dreaming of the company actually supporting this game)

I was a huge TF2 fan. Put something like 1500 hours in on my main account, and played on a low level pro team as engineer in the 9v9 matches and medic in the 5v5s. I'm now a huge DotA fan (something like 3.5k hours in the last 8 years). DotA killed TF2, in terms of support from Valve. They focused on keeping dota up to date, and kind of let TF2 fall by the wayside.

For what it's worth, sorry for my part in that. :p

My son play this game with his buddies from school almost daily.
I have turned into boring old fart of a father so I'm clueless about the game.
At least I'm not like my own father; If he couldn't understand it, it has to be of the devil.

My son tried showing me some fortnite dances three days in a row. The one with the L on the forehead.

Lmao. This video detailed all the nuance of the UI when it comes to the original, and I guess "real", version of Fortnite: The PvE, mission based game play.

They could have redone the video with the title: The ONE thing you NEVER noticed about Fortnite. Then the video would go on to explain that there is another game type other than Battle Royale and that Battle Royale was never the original vision of the game and that the game type was shoehorned in because another game made the game type popular and we're all doing it wrong. Then it could have gotten into the Top 10 that we ended up with above.

Audio doesn't sound like they are actually using the lapel mic but rather a shotgun style one mounted on the camera. Sounds too far away. I think the sound guy screwed up.

You don't need a high end condenser microphone to achieve good sound. Plenty of professional musician's use dynamic Shure SM58 microphones on stage and sound great. The XM8500 is compared to the Shure SM58 in sound just drastically cheaper because they aren't the industry standard brand recognition associated with quality and durability. So many musicians just want a Shure SM58 just because it's part of the look and out of place not to use them much like producers with Yamaha NS10 studio monitors everybody just has to have them like a iphone to fit the part.
