Hello folks,
I was wondering if you would mind dropping some recommendations for a new board and chip for my NAS refresh.
I am running a socket 2011 Xeon E5-1620 3.6ghz quad core with 32 GB DDR3 ECC Registered over FreeNAS ZFS. I am using a Supermicro motherboard. I love having IPMI. Not having to have a local console crap hooked up.
My goals for refresh since this machine is 7 years old.
-At Least handle my 8 spindles (this one does with ease)
-Run Plex and do a good job and transcoding
-save a lot more energy than this old chip uses. Low idle power, not much power under use, i.e. I was looking at ATOM based 12 and 16 core but those are very expensive.
-ABSOLUTELY must have ECC for ZFS
-Can I possibly use my DDR3 ECC I have now? Without having to get the latest and greatest DDR4 over priced crap?
Thanks
