Wifi Issues - Gaming Lag

So I've been in the same apartment complex for 10 months with no wifi issues. I have an AC1900 router and adapter and the last couple days I've been getting bad lag in gaming and inconsistent internet speed.

For example, playing a RTS strategy game, company of heroes 2, there is pausing and about a 1 second delay.

I changed adaptors and tried a different router, same netgear brand, but still experience the same issue. I've tried different channels with no luck.

Why all of the sudden am I having issues after being ok for 10 months at my apartment? Is there just too many wifi users in an apartment complex to not have interference? Did someone move in near me with their WiFi and causing interference? Am I out of luck and just need to hard wire into my router for gaming? The weird thing is wifi works fine for internet browsing on computer or phone, it's just gaming sucks all of the sudden. I actually hard wired in and there's no issues but I can't understand why I'm having wifi issues all of the sudden.

Someone probably set up a router in the last few days on the same channel. Or bought a cordless phone. Or a baby monitor. Or a new microwave oven.

Welcome to WiFi. Most people will tell you the correct answer is to use copper. I prefer the "get rid of all the neighbors" option though.
 
Your complex might have finally reached critical mass on ISP hot spots + customer APs and your setup's auto channel select ran out of options other then poor, bad, and worse. Could also be one or more of your neighbors have recently started streaming and the steady traffic is screwing with your WiFi.

Gaming is usually far more low ping dependent than normal browsing.

Or get off of 2.4G wireless.
