Two years ago, Elon Musk and others established a nonprofit AI lab called OpenAI. OpenAI has published dozens of research papers and just posted one Thursday - the lead author is still in high school. According to this Wired article, Kevin Frans is a senior in high school that trained his first neural net two years ago. He started working for OpenAI after taking on one of the lab's list of problems in need of new ideas. The rest is history so they say because he is the only person at OpenAI that doesn't have any kind of degree. With kids like this the future is looking really good.

Frans’s new paper, with Schulman and three others affiliated with the University of California Berkeley, reports new progress on this problem. "If it could get solved it could be a really big deal for robotics but also other elements of AI," Frans says. He developed an algorithm that helped virtual legged robots learn which limb movements could be applied to multiple tasks, such as walking and crawling. In tests, it helped virtual robots with two and four legs adapt to new tasks, including navigating mazes, more quickly.

Bah, another male Asian good at maths. We need more diversity. We need less male Asians and more genderfluid women of color in these programs. I vote to have his position terminated and a more diverse representative put in his place.

Absolute stupidity! Screw equality, I want the best person for the job to stay in the position. This mentality is going to set us back decades, and frankly, you're stupid for suggesting it.

That's right folks, you don't need a college degree anymore. As long as you are a prodigy in whatever field you are good at, you don't need one!

It holds true for plenty of jobs without needing to be a genius at what you do. My current position required a 4 year degree at minimum but I was able to skirt by with just a GED because I had a lot of people vouch for me. You either produce great product or have years of social engineering experience to make people think you do.

I think Meeho is just being sarcastic. /s should be put at the end of the comment.

You guys are hilarious.

What do you mean, "You guys"?

Imho it's this mindset that fuels our nationwide epidemic of science/education apathy.

It's not incorrect, a genius or talented can skip more hurdles than the average person, but many average people with a little ego pollution can turn into idiots thinking they can take short cuts in life.

Best to study or work hard than just assume you're gonna hit the Carmack jackpot, doesn't hurt to have a plan B in case you're not as hot as you think you are - or just not lucky to be in the right place at the right time in your lifetime at least.

My 2 cents.

I thought it was the rising anti-science PC/SJW bullshit in universities combined with "we don't care about your credentials, but your sking color and state of penis ownership" when looking for a job.
