Sharpness setting for monitors

I noticed my old monitors have this but none of my gaming monitors have this feature.
Was it just for Images or text or is it still found in photo editing monitors?

Analog monitors needed sharpness slider to get a good picture, but digital do not. The pixels are perfectly sharp on their own and whatever sharpness slider there may be is just artificial edge enhancer/unsharp mask effect. Thats why in many TV calibration instructions you see that they recommend to turn the sharpness slider all the way off to defeat the artificial sharpening UNLESS the same slider also adds blur filter when you turn it down below some certain value. Simply put the sharpness slider in digital display devices is always a special effect added on top of the original picture and many computer monitors simply chose leave that junk out because the perfect picture comes from not having any special effects at all. Show the pixels 1:1 as they are.

Can anyone explain the reason to have the blur filter though? To me it made no sense to want a less sharp picture than what sharpness at 0 (or 50 if it allows blurring) offers.

Well, little bit of smoothing can have a slight antialiasing effect and it can also smooth out compression artifacts a little bit.
