With Samsung having officially disclosed the reason for their Note 7 fiasco this week, I suppose it is time to move on to the next big topic surrounding the company, which is probably the Galaxy S8. The Guardian managed to score some exclusive info on their next phone, which basically confirms a nearly bezel-less screen. I see that marketing had some fun with this one, coining the “Infinity” and “Dream” monikers. Unfortunately, rumors suggest that Samsung is only releasing a curved-edged version, which is a “feature” that I really loathe, as it arguably introduces distortion. Maybe Google and HTC will cook up a Nexus this year that is comparable in style and performance…
The two smartphones are codenamed Dream and Dream 2, representing the smaller and larger Galaxy S8 respectively, according to two sources. Both versions will have screens that curve down at the left and right sides of the device similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge, two sources have said. The so-called “infinity display” will cover the majority of the front of the device, with very little body on the top and bottom of the screen not dedicated to the display. Two sources said there wasn’t even room to put a logo or brand name on the front of the device. Samsung has moved the fingerprint scanner to the back of the device, multiple sources said. The Galaxy S8 will have a traditional 3.5mm headphone socket, according to several sources.
