It won't install for me. Thread exception not handled error during install after 2 reboot, then uninstall and repairs itself (even at stock everything). Dunno, will wait till later I suppose.

eh i got the same thing.....but i have been insider as well....lol it never said what the attention actually was so it doesnt bother me and i think its just advertising the hole insider thingGetting a weird error after installing 1607. Windows Update is prompting me to give my Windows Insider settings attention. I've never been an insider with this install. That message shouldn't be there since I've never adjusted Insider settings.
Does Steam still work, or is that busted?
I don't get the reference, and my curiousity has finally exceeded my shame. What is the reference? I liked 10240 and 10586 for build numbers. I didn't get 14393 (or 14393.75).
So..........Stop using the built in start menu. I stopped using it well before the first beta was half way thru. It sucked then and hasn't got any better lol (And i doubt it ever will for desk tops) StartIsBack is best money i ever spent!I installed the update today and I already cant stand the start menu. The old one wasn't great, but it feels like Microsoft pushed back a little to the 8 menu than to the 7 menu.
they called it skype...Microsoft has lost their Ball(mer) apparently. They seem to tick all the wrong boxes and try to downgrade even the bits that they got right with Win10.
It looks more and more that Microsoft wants to create a centrally controlled crowd spying console out of Win10. The drive to force users to Win10, forced Cortana listening you 24/7 along with keyloggers etc... That stuff is like from a bad conspiracy spirited sci-fi movie.
The next will come Facebook integration to the OS so you get the full big brother experience.
hating the start menu change because of the 'all apps' column.
i'm able to disable the 'most used' choices but this will force me to use 3rd party app
Well, it always has ran. It's just the UI portion now auto loads. It actually used to be this way early on in 10's original preview then they removed the UI from auto starting.Came back from vacation and it installed automatically for me. I don't mind it. I'm not sure why they feel Windows Defender needs to run via startup, but otherwise I don't mind anything from the update.

I ended up uninstalling it from my laptop just to restore battery life (Still a no go on my main rig). It went from a 4 hr battery life back to 12hrs. For me, the update is not fully baked yet. I was looking forward to the features though. oh well. Will wait a little longer.Same thing here on my work laptop. My home desktop installed with no issues on its own. When I check for updates on my work laptop it says that its up to date.
Microsoft really doesn't care what you think about the start menu. There were many complaints during insider testing. Classic Shell 4.3 makes it the way I like itI installed the update today and I already cant stand the start menu. Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between 14393.51 and 1607? What do these numbers represent?

Partially correct. The Insider Preview does utilize only the build number, but the release version includes both the release date and build. The build number changes on the release version as well, not just on the Insider Preview. 1607 went gold with 14393.5 then went to 14393.10 then 14393.51.the 14XXX is for insider preview and the 1607 is for retail copies. they represent build versions.
1607 moved up to build 14393.51 with today's update.
Not sure on feature list yet but for those having trouble with 1607 it may be worth trying again. That's a hefty jump.
How does Microsoft roll out stuff like the Anniversary update? Is it like Google and Android updates, where 5% get it the first day, then 10% etc with 100% of clients being offered the update after a couple of weeks?
I ask because I have 3 windows 10 computers in the house, 2 desktops on Pro and a laptop on home. I've deferred the update on the desktops, with the intention of seeing how I feel about the changes on the laptop (which I don't care too much about hosing) before I commit to them on the desktops, and the Anniversary update just isn't appearing.
I know I can manually download it when I'm ready to test it and don't want to wait, but I was just curious.
Correct, doing a full/scratch install of Win 10 with your Win 7/8.x key is still legit. The free upgrade was for people installing Win 10 upgrade from inside their existing Windows installation.is it confirmed that I can download the W10 iso and use my Windows 7 key?...meaning I can still get a free install even though the free upgrade date is technically over...I'm getting a strange itch to actually use Windows 10 on a spare hard drive I have (with a legit separate W7 key from my main system)...
It's back to good old Win95 times where you had to reinstall the OS frequently. Only now you'll have to reset your computer to pre-update conditions and redo when the update is forced lol.
