Today we are announcing the OpenCellular access platform, and over time, we will be open-sourcing the design. We will also work on other elements like the software management system, hardware design, baseband, amplifier, filter, mounting device, and antennas. One of the reasons the expansion of cellular networks has stalled is that the ecosystem is constrained. Traditional cellular infrastructure can be very expensive, making it difficult for operators to deploy it everywhere and for smaller organizations or individuals to solve hyperlocal connectivity challenges. It's often unaffordable for them to attempt to extend network access in both rural and developed communities.

In many cellular network deployments, the cost of the civil and supporting infrastructure (land, tower, security, power, and backhaul) is often much greater than the cost of the cellular access point itself. One of our goals was to make architectural and design improvements that would result in lower costs associated with the civil and supporting infrastructure. With OpenCellular, we want to develop affordable new technology that can expand capacity and make it more cost-effective for operators to deploy networks in places where coverage is scarce. By open-sourcing the hardware and software designs for this technology, we expect costs to decrease for operators and to make it accessible to new participants.

I hope that, one day, fb fades away a la myspace.

Not happening so you may as well get over it. Also, not really sure why you would want all those people to lose their jobs. Moving into other areas, if successful, will keep them around for a long time to come.

Classic ManofGod post. I would gladly see them lose their jobs, and hopefully get hired elsewhere to do something useful with their lives.

Classic ManofGod post, caring about others. I know, what the heck, right?:D:rolleyes: Last time I checked, they are doing something useful with their lives. How about stop judging them for where they work instead? I know, must be if you do not post a hate filled anti facebook post, there is something wrong with you, eh? Thank you, I am actually pleased that my classic posts are not filled with hate filled vitriol.

I don't have a positive opinion of a company that collects data on people that aren't even their users, censors information for political reasons (which is technically fine, but they deny the accusation which makes it extra scummy), and of course their product in itself.

And of course, lets not ignore that you implied Wyodiver wanted those people to "lose their jobs" enmasse. He merely stated that he wanted Facebook to be a thing of the past. Its not as though the company will dissolve overnight and the people left on the street. Which is the "classic manofgod" part of your post.

If you say so but, what do you think would happen to the employees if facebook becomes a thing of the past? They would go their own way singing happy songs? Sheez, perhaps folks need to think things through because, that is the logical conclusion when hoping that a company would become a thing of the past.

It's easy for people to hate on facebook, plus it is cool. When in reality facebook brings far more good things to the world than the people that hate on it.

I don't know if their active user count is still on the rise or dropping, but ads and clickbait have absolutely ruined Facebook, and now that old people have caught on and all the miscreants have come out to play, I feel like it's declining in popularity amongst American youth.

Facebook the website might become obsolete one day, but Facebook the company is quite a bit bigger and they have much broader goals than MySpace ever did. Not only that but they are a very rapidly evolving company. Those people won't be out of jobs if the website declines in popularity, they'll just be used on different projects.

And propping up obsolete jobs isn't caring about people. Obsolete jobs need to go away. People can adapt. That's part of what being a professional and having a career means. That's why I scoff when people bring up saving the jobs of coal miners as a reason to support coal energy. No, that's stupid.

Facebook is internet cancer. I remember back in the day it was all about posting pictures of what you did, parties you went to, places youve been to. Now its full of old people sharing fake ass clickbait articles " 5 ways to lose belly fat, number 4 will shock you!!" People expressing their political views, unfunny memes, and just general shit. Its become the dumpster for internet things. A lot of stuff i see on there is originally from other places like reddit, and a few days to a week later i will see it on facebook shared by the hundreds of shit pages. And there new algorithm for showing you things on your news feed is AIDS. Like do i really care that so and so are friends now, or that so and so liked something. I miss when it was only original content created by your friends. I generally dont "like" pages on facebook because its pointless and only adds clutter to what i see and when shares something from a page or it shows they liked something from that page i will just click the button to "hide all post from this page". Its worked a little on hiding all the shit, but now my newsfeed is spammed with so and so are friends, because there is nothing else it can show me and the algorithm is freaking out.

actually where facebook thrives in my opinion is the groups. I use it more for group things than personal BS. With sale groups and such it is an alternative to CL, Ebay, and the like and if you do social things, the groups lead you to events where you know you meet up with people. Look at it as something outside your personal realm and there is much more to it.

Facebook in many things has replaced traditional forums, although that is both bad and good. 2 car forums I belong too are pretty much dead as everyone moved to facebook. Sad because all the knowledge is on the forums and searchable but facebook makes posting easier, especially in the photo/file department.

Yeah i will say facebook is good for getting people together for an event as pretty much everyone has it. Im part of a few groups but they are local car groups so nothing special. I was part of the local B/S/T group but my news feed was getting cluttered with people spamming random crap i would never buy like old furniture or baby clothes so i had to leave the group. I really dont do much on FB anymore, my profile picture is the same one ive had for the past two years because i just dont care anymore and im not a narcissist. I rarely make post if ever because nothing i put on there really matters and no one really cares. Plus after looking at my old cringy post from 6 years ago, i cringed myself into never posting again. I may add a few pictures of new stuff i got, cars, car parts. But usually never pictures of me nor do i really take pictures of friends just to tag them. I just keep up with how friends are doing and maybe mack on some college chicks but thats about it.
