Kyle is reddit famous!

AMD's current GPU stack is what got them to historical lows in market share. Its very obvious that AMD needs to gain market share quickly and the best way is to go after mainstream segments first. But the more important reason imo is yields on large dies. AMD has avoided building big dies first at GF as they do not have the experience that TSMC has. Yields are said to be better at TSMC than Samsung which in turn is better than GF. So AMD has chosen pragmatically to go small dies first. btw Kyle since you seem to be so well versed with AMD's next gen GPU plans can you please point out what they were. AMD has said there are 2 Polaris and 2 Vega GPUs. Polaris covers entry level and mainstream and Vega covers high end and ultra high end.

AMD Unveils GPU Architecture Roadmap: After Polaris Comes Vega

"Meanwhile AMD has also confirmed the number of GPUs in the Vega stack and their names. We’ll be seeing a Vega 10 and a Vega 11. This follows Polaris GPU naming – which has finally been confirmed – with Polaris 10 and Polaris 11. I have also been told that Polaris 11 is the smaller of the Polaris GPUs, so at this point it’s reasonable to assume the same for Vega."

Anyway we will know within a week what Rx 480 performs like. Somehow I think there are more surprises waiting in the next few months.

Gaining marketshare quickly never happens like that. First off you need to repair your tarnished brand first, than you need an ENTIRE product stack that is compelling to OEM's. Halo products are extremely important. Yeah not everyone is going to be getting said halo products but by forgoing them, the company doing so, has more ground to cover in the mind set as people already read those reviews and have made up their minds certain products are better, because they assume that the technology trickles down. Which in GPU's they do, but there can have inherent differences between the segments they are unaware of. This is extremely important in the case of OEM sales, because most people who buy those products aren't looking at the individual component capabilities, but over all they look at what is going into the system. OEM's are fully aware of the halo product effect and they do buy and push/market their products accordingly.

Remember what happened to 3Dfx they left OEM's alone, and tried to corner the market by themselves to get a bigger piece of the pie, it back fired.

Fist off we know shit about yeilds from GF vs TSMC. two different fabs and two difference processes, we can't assume anything like what you have stated.......

Now we also know nV has a good chuck of the OEM market cornered with last gen products, and with Pascal because it came out with good reviews, OEM's will not be willing to give AMD a bigger slice of the pie than nV, yeah at least they have products to sell now unlike q4 2 years ago and q1 and q2 of last yearl, but OEM's aren't looking at that they are looking at the data they have in their hands, which systems sold more with what components. AMD so far has had three quarters with products on selves, prior to that they missed 9 months yes, but OEMs are going to be looking at the last few quarters and basing sales potential and also product buying and product placement based on that.

There is much more to it than just this, but hopefully you get a small picture in your mind how complex it will get. Business at these sizes are run by monkeys, nor do things shift at the speed of light.

People Of PCMR, How old are you?

61% of PCMR under 20.

So yeah, no need to speculate.
HardOCP is older than approx 61% of PCMR. This website has literally existed longer than their entire lifespan. These are mostly the same people on the AMD sub right now.
I wonder how many of them did their first build within the last 2-3 years (when the PS4 and Xbox One came out).

Their first build was a PS4, Xbox one, god save them lol, J/K had to say it :)

Can't believe I feel old. I was born on a leap day shortly before y2k

lol that's not old at all

If the r/AMD age group is roughly the same as PCMR, then do you're literally arguing with children/teenagers, which would be the most pointless waste of time and exercise in futility ever.

(and incidentally, why drop to their level? Actually I'd go further and say it's shameful to be arguing with children -- they don't know any better, but you do (you as in the generic you not you you specifically))

Arguing with who? I'm an active participant on /r/AMD, I mostly just use it for news and discussion.
I try to avoid controversial topics, like most fan-subs there's no point arguing with them. I only got involved this time since I post in both places.

If this were a debate with any other internet forum vs /r/AMD, I would have totally ignored it.

Well then you definitely aren't part of the norm there.

It's turned into a toxic fanboy sub over the last year. The upcoming GPU launches + AMD's new marketing campaign ("Revolt!") is only going to make matters worse.
A lot of leaks and news ends up on /r/AMD before anywhere else, it's a good idea to check there often.

P.S. Hello /r/AMD, I know somebody will inevitably use this post against me in the future. "HE SAID OUR SUB IS TOXIC!" I can see it now...

It's a pity that people have to turn social media platforms so damn toxic. Reddit and Tumblr both are just shit shows. Both had potential to be interesting platforms for different reasons and now they're both equally toxic and repulsive.

Well its like Facebook vs, myspace

Facebook succeded because they set up rules the right way for social media and keep evolving it properly. My space all you are left with are kids and pedos lol!

All the more reason to stop posting in (that particular) shittit.

Shit... now that I think about it their "revolution" ad campaign can't cause anything else than super toxic atmosphere. What's the point? Trash talk competition and crucify random sites/persons who they do not happen to like?

Well, to be fair, Nvidia fans have been doing that for over a decade.

Kyle you master level trolling bastard!!

Wow though, what a load of shit.

Dear Reddit. I dare you to quote this!

1: No source for 850MHz or (2) October! Kyle specifically never stated anything about clockspeeds to avoid revealing sources. His choice is reveal it, risk source and credibility or lie about a close clockspeed and loose credibility on launch. Great reasons, eh? GTFO here you butthurt liars.
  1. "Polaris can not reach 850MHz"
  2. "Polaris delayed to october"
  3. "Polaris is very hot"
  4. "Polaris stack is about to collapse"

4 is also total BS misquote. 'AMD GPU stack' not 'Polaris'. When you can't even 'quote' something accurately, I think that says much about the integrity of such a reddigg points grab. The 'stack' is in reference to the products available. What do you think Polaris does to the price of a 390? How much do you discount it? What about 380s, etc still in channel underneath? Give them away?

3- Polaris does run hot for the performance it appears to have, compared to Paxwell. That's the only thing on that entire list that has actually been said by Kyle.

[H] doesn't talk shit on any manufacturer without good reason. They hammered Nvidia, Intel and AMD in past. Gave recent AMD cards a fair but good review, political bullshit aside. So what's the bias? Wouldn't you expect fail reviews for all AMD products if there was bias?

I'm an AMD guy since k6 days and I don't see bias or misrepresentation.

these are the type of people that frequent /r/amd

It's a good idea honestly.

Your videos on Eyefinity really made me go ATI. It was a groundbreaking feature that Nvidia was late to the game on.
Those of us that has been here for years know the real timeline of your comments, and know you have been consistent in calling bullshit on either camp when required.

It didn't help that nVidia's tri-monitor solution didn't work for months on end while said support was emblazoned on the box...

Negative advertising works as much as I hate to admit it. It definitely works in politics but it seems to also work in advertising. When you're on top like Nvidia or Intel you don't have to compare yourself to the competition but when you're the little dog trying to show how you compare to the leader. Take speakers for instance, Bose are decent speakers but incredibly overpriced but they sell like hotcakes because people know the name. They walk into Best Buy looking for speakers and see Polk Audio and Bose and they think, "well I've heard a lot about these Bose speakers so they must be better". So it makes sense for Polk Audio to show how they compare and maybe even talk a little trash about Bose in their ads.

That type of advertising doesn't work on our segment of the market because we read the reviews and tests of these products and we know what is marketing BS and what isn't. Unfortunately the other 95% of the market relies pretty much solely on advertising and name recognition when making their purchases.

We should make another thread called: Our favorite Kyle Bennett quotes.
It can be things that Kyle never actually said, but since they are in quotation marks, he did.

The thing is, they may be kiddies, but they're kiddies with unprecedented access to (ridiculously easy-to-use) social media -- something that wasn't nearly as prevalent 50+ years ago. So rumors/hate/fanboyism spread around by kids, fools, lamers, and folks bored out of their skull who love stirring up controversy, have a tendency to get much farther out of hand than before, and also reach a far higher audience than before. Up until the late 1980s, people/institutions with incredible moral/social standards could simply wait until the false rumors/imaginings died down, secure in their unassailable reputation. Thanks to the vast growth/outreach of social media, that's no longer really possible. One has to respond with a firm, concise statement, or else the "popular memory" will remember THE LAST negative puns, jokes, cartoons, and sayings about someone/something, and that last negative idea will replace what the real truth is. This is why practically any politician worth their salt responds quickly and decisively to very damaging statements made by their opponents.

In other words, yes, the "Boy Who Cried Wolf" phenomenon is alive and well, and nowadays, thanks to the explosion in social media, might actually get his cake and eat it too.

"You big pussies." - Kyle Bennet

Well, he actually said that. Seemed fitting for this thread.

The best part of all this, they do it at reddit, they can't and never will they talk to Kyle directly, just immature jackasses that won't get far in life......

The 850MHz/delayed until October rumors were started by user Oj010 on OCN. Sent the natives into a frenzy there. I guess their blind hatred for Kyle somehow conflated the two, and the wild west atmosphere of Reddit gave them a venue to spew unfettered idiocy.

It's just a matter of time until someone sexually identifies as a Radeon card, then you're in real tumblr trouble.
