Polaris not confirmed, but c'mon, of course it's a Polaris GPU.
He also gave the GB/s but I missed it. 320 GB/s or similar.

Holy SHIT it's that far off? Wow. I thought it was Holiday 2016.yeah 320. coming holiday 2017, so a year and a half.
It's gonna push PC gaming further I hope. hopefully not shitty ports though.

Yeah, I don't even know why they did it at this E3. they should've kept it for next years. Who is going to get their slim xbox one S now when they know about a better one? seems silly.
Unlikely considering the FLOPS number, it adds up well to P10+something like 8 cat cores. Then maybe it's Vega, not Polaris.

They also announced that many first-party Xbone games will launch with a PC version... so Microsoft are trying to make their hardware less relevant?
Why would that be the case. Windows/Xbox are both microsoft products. Why would they not want to increase the install base on both.
I am looking for the play anywhere feature. I would grab a game in a heart beat it I wanted it for xbox and now I can play it on my pc too.
thats impressive console hardware imo. Too bad its so far off.Why does title say 5.9Tflops? It was announced as 6, and has been stated as over 6.
It's also most likely to be Vega, you have to remember they run lower clock speeds and cut CUs to keep production yields higher and heat down.
It's also assumed it's 384bit/12Gb GDDR5 based on ram count on board, 320GB/s, and would be cheaper then GDDR5X/HBM2.
They are moving away from console generations and towards an open platform. Bringing the games to PC doesnt make less reason to buy the console for console gamers, it just makes the games available to more people.
I would say it is a 256-bit GDDR5X bus -- they did say it was 8GB and it would be kinda tricky to get 8GB on a 384-bit bus. You would have to have it be non-symmetrical.Why does title say 5.9Tflops? It was announced as 6, and has been stated as over 6.

the new Neo PS4 is not really a must have upgrade but this new Xbox Scorpio seems like a night/day difference from the standard version...I would be pissed if I were an Xbox owner
Not as big a deal as these are both X86 platforms and AMD. Although I did wonder if they would have platform specific releases and would that be a good idea.the new Neo PS4 is not really a must have upgrade but this new Xbox Scorpio seems like a night/day difference from the standard version...I would be pissed if I were an Xbox owner

The PS4 Neo will come out before this and will be the lowest common demoninator in console gaming with roughly ~4 TF of GPU processing power. Scorpio won't have as much of an impact on PC gaming as Neo will as the PS4 is the largest userbase for this gen by quite a bit and developers will work with it as the lead platform as it will be the weakest as well.
is that not always the case?I think we'll find that Current Console quality levels will be the new minimum.
is that not always the case?
They didn't specify ram count at all. Only specs they gave were 6Tflops, 320GB/s, and 8 CPU cores. The images they showed of the board has 12 ram ICs, which would be 12GB on a 384bit bus, meaning GDDR5.I would say it is a 256-bit GDDR5X bus -- they did say it was 8GB and it would be kinda tricky to get 8GB on a 384-bit bus. Scorpio is targeted at people with 4K tvs. People without 4k have no incentive to get Scorpio. Phil Spencer has done many interviews stating this. The games will be the same, with regular X1 for 1080P TVs and Scorpio running those games at 4K.the new Neo PS4 is not really a must have upgrade but this new Xbox Scorpio seems like a night/day difference from the standard version...I would be pissed if I were an Xbox owner
If that were the case, then X1 would currently be the lead platform. The PS4 Neo will come out before this and will be the lowest common demoninator in console gaming with roughly ~4 TF of GPU processing power. To PC hardware enthusiast who understand resolution and what not better, that's true. But the average console gamers have been on this "resolution = pretty" train since this generation started. If all they do is up the resolution but not textures, lighting etc then these new consoles are completely pointless.

Phil Spencer has said there is open discussion with devs on what their goals are and what they want to do with Scorpio, but at the same time they don't want there to be game changing differences like there is when going from one generation to the next. This is just an upgraded current gen experience. They wont allow multiplayer games to run at 30FPS on the lower models and 60FPS on the higher ones even though it could handle it. So 99% of the time resolution increase, and HDR support will be the only advantages.
They also are pushing for more games to have scalable resolution (where the game will cut lines of res during stressful situations to maintain framerate). Because then they could build the game at 4K, and have it run whatever res the box its on is capable of doing at the target framerate.
Except they're pretty much the same architecture now ... it's a lot easier to scale games between consoles and PCs.I fear this will screw over PC gaming worse than if they had kept Xbox One going for a bit longer. Because now they're tethering their newer consoles to the lowest common denominator and in turn that means PC games will continue to be limited by PS4/Shitbox One for years to come. Maybe it's time to find a new hobby, especially since i just offloaded my Titan X's today.

That's only happened with a few games, though. I share your sentiment, but time will tell. But even PC-only devs have made some horribly unoptimized games. You can't fix lazy development. That hasn't worked out at all the last 3 years so what makes you think it will be any different in the future? If devs are making their games for the lowest tier boxes, they won't expend additional resources to make bigger maps, add additional support (e.g. Crossfire/SLI) or even effects unless they tack on GameWorks. I'm not optimistic about this at all and wish MS would have taken a different route by just killing off Xbox One and saying Scorpion is replacing it.

Indeed..I have been wanting to play ARK since the idea behind it is cool to me, but even with my current rig the results I've seen aren't pretty..I am waiting to see if Vega will offer a guaranteed 100%+ improvement over a single heavily OC'd 290 (my baseline where X-fire doesn't work)..True enough, ARK developers are a shining example of devs making a game that runs like shit.
