You know you didn't have a very strong case when the judge dismissed the case with a single-sentence order.

Apple has won a complete victory in a lawsuit that claimed the company wiretaps Android users by intercepting, and then failing to deliver, texts sent from iPhones to Android phones. The three alleged that they switched from iPhones to Android phones in 2012. After that, texts sent to them from other iPhone users were not delivered. They were probably stuck in Apple's iMessage system, which was notoriously unreliable at delivering texts to Android phones until late 2014, when Apple introduced a fix for the bug. That constitutes a violation of the Federal Wire Tap Act, the three claim. Apple denied the allegations.

Consumers screwed over by Koh again. She has a trend of siding with Apple.

I have never had someone complain that android texts didn't get through to me if the conversation started as SMS.

The people switching from Apple to Android (rather iMessage to SMS) absolutely was a problem though.

Text messages need to die. They don't text here in Japan which I am fine with... one more BS fee to avoid from cell carriers. Everyone uses apps like Line or Voxer for texting.

That is what they are talking about. 3 people had iPhones and switched to android, they then no longer got text from people with iPhones. Which was the well known messaging issue as your number was still tied to that service and it wouldn't let go of it. Of course later it was said that you could pay them something like $20 to remove your number assuming you didn't turn off message before deactivating the phone. These 3 sued over that issue claiming it was illegal wiretapping. One person then asked to be removed from the case and the other two got rid of their old phones so Apple claimed that it couldn't be proved that the messages where going to their old phones still.

Over all it is a bullshit ruling as everyone knows that was a valid issue with iPhones back then. The problem has been fixed so you can't show it now that it still happens. And most people trade in old phones when they get new ones so requiring they still have them is shit.sounds like a judge in somebody's pocket to me

If it's the same Koh I'm thinking of... then it is pretty expected.

Texting is preferred over calls since you can go back to it when you're free unlock calls that don't leave a nessage. Google Voice/Hangouts offer free SMS and calls within North America along with ability to use a desktop browser to send/receive SMS, listen to voice mail and make/receive calls for several years now long before Apple continuity.

Are you genuinely incapable of distinguishing between a valid technical glitch as opposed to Apple deliberately circumventing wiretapping laws?

Bite your tongue. I'm hearing impaired and I need texting.

If your having to use an app to avoid a fee for a service that is now free on every major US carrier then it's being done wrong
There is Japan, not here.

I find using data based messaging apps like whatsapp to be more reliable than SMS tbh. There are times when cellular SMS is bad and lags my SMS for awhile and since I always have data/WiFi where I go, I'd rather do that

My comment was the reasons for why the case was dropped. Not the case itself being dropped in general. Yes i think Apple should have been sued as that wasn't a technical glitch, it was a problem they created then refused to fix for years as it was a way to force people back to iPhones. That said this case was dropped because the people got rid of their old phones and thus could not prove today in court that this problem occurred and that the text would still go to their iPhone. Which they couldn't prove even if they had their old phones as the issue had been stopped already.

Lets use this as an example, somebody hacks into your server and you press charges. You go to court and the judge tells you to pull out a laptop right now and show that the person is currently logged into your servers and stealing data. You respond with you can't because said person is sitting there in court and not on a computer plus you closed the security holes. Since you can't show the person is doing anything right then the judge throws out the case saying that the past doesn't matter and they have to be doing it at that exact moment for you to have a case. Would that not seem odd to you?

It was a convenient and trivial to fix problem that Apple sat on because it benefitted them. Only the cool aid drinking apologists see it any other way.
