Have a problem? Let the government solve it for you! Works every time. :D

On Tuesday, the White House announced it has brokered a number of new initiatives involving major tech companies, such as Amazon and Microsoft; well-known venture capital firms; and engineering departments at large universities committing to concrete plans to foster diversity within their organizations.

Oh to hell with this. My organization is trying to do this crap and they are hiring the wrong people just because they want more diversity in IT. Anything the Government touches turns to crap.

Let's treat the symptoms and not actually fix the problem

Let's shut down all charter schools and make sure poor kids can't get a decent education so we can help protect the "valuable" teacher unions and at the same time breed a new generation of undereducated democrat voters. Love how nobody talks about the war on children that the democrats have going.

As far as quotas and diversity goes...

Also someone already in the article was spot on:

So what if only 30% of the workforce in tech are woman. This statistic is a lie and does not tell the whole truth. It fails to take into account the amount of woman studying the STEM fields. More importantly just because an industry does not have a 50/50 split does not make it racist or sexist, it just shows certain groups either favor or disfavor an industry. Men make up the vast majority of construction jobs and high risk work. Hence why 93% of all workplace deaths are men. Where is the outcry to make that number equal? Where is the outcry for more men to be in fields dominated by woman?

Our government is the most racist, sexist organization any of us will ever have to deal with. When it says "diversity" it is talking about racist and sexist quotas, and nothing but. But Federal law says it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of race & sex...Hmmmm....Amazing how government gets around having to obey its own laws & regulations...

I believe Dr. King said it best.. "I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

What's funny, is that in my area at least I'm pretty sure the typical white male will be another minority soon (in tech) based on how many Indians companies like MSFT and Amazon are bringing in. Not complaining outside of the in-sourcing/wage discussion, just pointing it out as an ironic development.

And many would accept these words at the time while complaining vociferously about civil rights laws, desegregation, etc.

The government is trying to press into us that both sexes are exactly the same and want and can do the same things perfectly. I wonder what the president is going to do regarding the huge ratio of men to women in firefighting!

Yeah, this is to appease Hillary and get more democrat voters as well.

60-70% of women prefer not to work in a windowless cube with very little positive/negative feed back from peers/customers. Shocking...

Then again no one is crying a river that i have a snowballs chance in hell of teaching nature's petri dishes...

Being diverse is not synonymous with racism. You can look it up in a dictionary the two words don't mean the same thing.

That thing that just flew over your head.... that was the point.

Being diverse is not...

FORCING diversity is racism... it's discrimination whether its against a minority or not.

How is it not? Racism is preconceptions about humans that have a certain skin color.
Diversity is noticing that the skin colors in a certain area are too white or that the radio of penises to vaginas aren't 50/50 in well paid jobs.
Both focus on the skin color of people instead of realizing that everyone is an individual with their own personal thoughts and feelings.

Just to clarify a little further... What I mean is that somebody will be discriminated against when you force something like this. Put simply, some fully qualified person is not going to get some job because of their race or color. Sounds like racism to me regardless of how you spin it.

Well said.

If this bothers you, you have some deep seated issues that aren't going to be addressed in a thread on [H].

Or maybe they don't want to work with idiots, who got the job because they have a quota to fill.

I was planning to get a gun, sooner or later. I guess I should get it sooner.

..... >_> I'm on some sort of watch list now, aren't I?

Is the President also pushing for more diversity in the NBA? Or is diversity only required in industries dominated by white males?

Idiot's aren't an underrepresented group targeted for outreach in this initiative

Diversity? Is this a joke? Maybe he should listen into my conference calls. I would assume its the same for many of you others in the industry. Well at least in telecom its extremely diverse.

PM's are all women. Dev is all H1B. QC is all H1B. So will this never be satisfied until my job is filled by a woman or H1B?

Most of the coaches and owners are white. When it comes to the players were only talking about a grand total 360 people, 30 teams with a maximum roster of 12.
The point is that it's a black dominated sport yet no one as crying that it's racist and there needs to be more whites, hispanics, asians on the teams.

But you're only looking at the players. It's a black dominated sport with I think one black owner? That's not counting the rest of the back office.

No one cares about the owners. Last i heard anyone with money can come along and buy a team. That's not exactly a job position being an owner. Playing a professional sport definitely is. I'm sure the team positions are sought after based on player skill. But somehow the tech field is vastly different in that companies don't recruit the best in the field? They should play by different rules and make sure the workplace is diverse, right?

This will go over well.

Didn't Ellen Pao step down from Reddit few weeks ago because of something along these lines?

I mean her and her husband are scam artists who have law cases for 'diversity' and 'discrimination' which is how they're rich, so...

When a guy like Steve Ballmer can write a personal check for $2 billion dollars like most people buy groceries, people care. And again, this is such a tiny group that using it as any broad measure of race is statistically meaningless. And what about NASCAR or the NHL?

I know. This is so stupid. At least in the western world, girls have the same opportunity to go into tech as guys. Why push them? If they get interested, they'll go to these jobs. I don't see people crying for more diversity in taxi drivers, nurses or, as someone mentioned earlier, firefighting. This forced, artificial diversity crap is really becoming tiring.

Effort would be better spent in working with countries where women's rights are in complete violations, not in the west.

What's next, more male doulas?!

I for one would LOVE to see more asians in NASCAR for fairly obvious reasons.

I really don't understand the "I don't see feminists pushing for more women in X field" argument.

You aren't going to find a single feminist who thinks any field should be all men or male dominated. Just because you think a job is shitty doesn't mean you should project your thoughts about that on feminists. Its not a gotcha, I'm sorry. I know you think you had one, but you don't.
