AMD Ushers In A New Era Of PC Gaming With 300 Series Graphics Line-Up With HBM Techno

White papers are proof.
Memory technology and bandwidth isn't the only variable in deciding GPU performance, though it is a main component.

The fact that HBM is significantly better than GDDR5 cannot be disputed.

You can trust you're white paper.. I'll wait to solid physical proof.

LoL. It has nothing to do with trust. It is simple facts.
I take it you haven't read up on HBM or are able to comprehend the specifications?

Fact- HBM uses less power than GDDR5.
Fact- HBM has more bandwidth than GDDR5.
Fact- HBM allows for poor scaling analog blocks to be moved to the base layer, removing complexity while freeing up space on the GPU die.

Is there a simple table to see which card is a re-badge of which 200`s ?

What good is increased bandwidth if it amounts to nothing in terms of performance which is what we are all waiting for.
HBM is not just about increased bandwidth. It gives performance/watt in order of 7x or better, the form factor is also vastly smaller. Even if HBM was physically exactly the same size as GDDR5 it will still be a major improvement.

HBM is going to show up in everything, and all GPUs will be using it as soon as it is practical.

I would still wait for the final benchmarks to view overall performance. And hopefully we can also compare a 980 Ti hybrid with the Fury X to judge overall performance.

If you believe the "leaked" charts that are circling around right now, Fury X is just ahead of Titan X and Fury is on par with a 980ti. None of these are official by any means, so take it with a grain of salt.

If the performance is that good I wonder why not just drop the NDA _now_ and dispense with the secrecy?

Because most of the reviewers are at E3 and didn't have cards before hand.
Takes about a week or so to get reviews out once you have the card.

It's a soft launch aka paper launch. No samples with any reviewers yet.

I'm going to bet that they think that insane bandwidth will remove the need for more V-Ram.

Will it prove such a case? Time will tell when review sites actually get their copies.

No amount of GRAM-GPU bandwidth will help if there is not enough capacity. They may have other tricks implemented, though.

Paper launch does not mean what you think it means.

They haven't "launched" the card.
They announced some details and gave a date for the NDA to drop, which is when we will see reviews and cards available.

I'd be curious to know what they had originally hoped/planned to price the Fury X at, since 980 Ti forced it down to $649

Can I have a link or anything to show that the Fury x was coming at a higher price?

For all we know the Fury-X was coming in at a much lower price but the launch of the 980Ti showed AMD that they could charge more for it.

Or maybe Nvidia got wind of the price/performance of the Fury and had to lower it's price and launch beforehand to take some wind out of AMD's sails.

Shhhh, no logical thinking here!

None knew what Fury was going to be priced.
nvidia lowered their 980ti to even be able to sell cards once Fury was out that would go down the drain. more normal price would been $750 or $800 for it.

New tech vs old tech?
I buy new Fury tech thank you.

How much does AMD pay you Steve? You guys do this every time AMD releases another mediocre product.

Oh wah fanboy wahhhhhhh. Do you read hardocp daily? They announce all new tech woth enthusiasm or criticism, why i been coming back since 2001 or 2002. Geez .

This would be my guess, since the air cooled version is less expensive still. People are so conditioned to seeing ridiculously priced $1,000 cards now they think $650 must be cheap. Marketing FTL.

Oh wow, you didn't just say that?

At least now We know AMD have a good product when the Nvidia shills have to resort to this crap.

Show me one thing that's revolutionary or ground breaking or that coincides with any of the FUD he posted?!?:eek::eek:

I always found it amusing how they all come out of the woodwork whenever AMD launches new products.

They would take the time out of their day to venture to a board that they obviously hate and reply in it.

I don't get it

Surprisingly, other than mango, the usual suspects are MIA.

They must be banned from the AMD section.

I love how we've been waiting for this announcement for weeks, and we still have tons of questions that haven't been answered. Sure, now we know the pricing, but a whole lot of good that does...

we know that specs as well.

little comfort, i know, without benches

lol

[H] posts plenty of official PR statements on a daily basis. Each news cycle always start with official statements (if there's any for that day) before moving on to articles.

That said, regardless of Fury's performance, there's plenty to get excited about HBM itself. Of course memory bandwidth is not the only performance factor, but I believe embedded memory will be a key technology in microprocessors in the future, especially in applications like GPU and low power SoC where you don't need expandable memory capability.

Just think of them as angry mascots...

Its fine to suspect something but what you posted isnt good form.
You should at least know 100% before even making that kind of statement and its wise to express it with candour.

You can trust you're white paper.. I'll wait to solid physical proof.

You can't trust the engineers that actually designed it? People that explained in technical detail how HBM uses less power and PCB real estate for equal amounts of bandwidth?

Holy hell, man...

HBM is the future of graphics ram, GDDR5 has pretty much hit the limits what it can do. This is just the natural order of things, happens all the time.

Just wait until next year when Nvidia invents HBM. This will be the greatest thing ever in the GPU industry.
The HBM Nvidia are working on is set to revolutionize the graphics card industry. You heard it here first folks.

HBM was co-developed by AMD and SK Hynix. Get your facts straight.

I am pretty sure sarcasm was involved.
On AMD's launch, I think it would be great if they deliver the dates with some volume.
AMD is a bit of a weird cat in the world of tech... besides seemingly having more than 9 lives, they been to the brink for a long time, and still keep innovating... its will be a sad day for tech if they do go under.

Sorry my sarcasm meter isn't working from all the team green drivel I keep reading. I can't tell what's a serious reply anymore.

You can tell nV folks by their newfound silence about perf/watt joining FCAT measurements on the list of REALLY IMPORTANT metrics that no longer matter when their "team" is no longer the market leader and they start to feel weird about their purchases and their previous senseless self-congratulatory nonsense.

People still talking about perf/watt at least want to see some measured facts to make informed purchases and good on 'em.

But no one cares about FCAT now that Crossfire typically performs better than SLI thanks to XDMA, which I'm sure nV will also be a "pioneer" in next gen.

Sorry man did not mean to trick anyone.I was just making point about the same team green drivel I keep reading also.
It is making my head spin at times reading some of the stuff.
AMD hit a homerun with there lineup especially with water cooled Fury X for the price of a reference 980Ti card.

Don't count your homeruns before the ball leaves the pitcher's mound. Do we know how they perform yet, particularly in Crossfire 4K and triple-monitor gaming?

not seeing anything impressive enough to dump my r290. guess im going to wait another 6 months to a year and see what the next line up looks like. eh.
